Modulatory profiling reveals cancer cell-selective dependency on glutamate-cysteine ligase independent of ferroptosis induction (EORTC-NCI-AACR 2024) - Sep 8, 2024 - Abstract #50; PB038; Pres time: Oct 23, 2024; 12:00 PM - 07:00 PM; Location: Exhibition Hall; "Early work leading to the discovery of prototypical ferroptosis inducers, erastin and RSL-3, emerged from phenotypic compound screens aimed at identifying small molecules with mutant RAS-specific lethality...Notably, cancer cells and tumors deficient in SLC7A11 or TXNRD1 exhibit heightened sensitivity to BSO, although the resultant cell death mechanism is distinct from ferroptosis or apoptosis. These insights address longstanding discrepancies in the ferroptosis field and position BSO as a potential anti-cancer agent for SLC7A11 and TXNRD1-deficient tumors independent of ferroptosis induction."
