Propranolol however was not effective at increasing withdrawal threshold, suggesting that noradrenergic modulation during VNS alone is not sufficient for driving improved somatosensation. This study explored the neurological mechanisms underpinning pain and VNS-driven plasticity, and lays the groundwork for developing a fundamentally novel, promising approach toward a long-lasting rehabilitation of post-injury chronic pain."
