Childhood cancer following kidney transplantation: a 25-year experience (TTS 2026) - Sep 17, 2026 - Abstract #P1.047; Pres time: Sep 21, 2026; 04:45 PM - 06:00 PM; Location: Hall 1-2; P1; "Eight patients were EBV IgG negative pre-transplant, and three developed EBV viraemia prior to cancer diagnosis, managed with reduced immunosuppression and/or valganciclovir. Two patients had biopsy-proven acute rejection, treated with pulsed methylprednisolone, IVIG or tocilizumab...All PTLD patients except one received rituximab and chemotherapy; one also underwent an autologous bone marrow transplant... In this cohort, 3% of paediatric kidney transplant patients developed cancer in childhood. Only four of eight patients who developed PTLD had EBV driven disease, underscoring the need for vigilant surveillance even in EBV negative patients. Overall, treatment of childhood cancer post-kidney transplant had excellent outcomes in terms of both survival and preserved graft function."
