Prevalence, bacterial etiology, and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of urinary tract infections among pregnant women in rural West Amhara, Ethiopia.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "Among all isolates, resistance was high for ampicillin (66.7%) and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (40.0%). The majority of isolates (76.2%) were susceptible to nitrofurantoin, cotrimoxazole, and cefpodoxime...In conclusion, in rural communities in Amhara, there is high resistance to first-line antibiotics used to treat UTI in pregnancy and a need for accurate, low-cost UTI diagnostic methods. Increasing access to effective treatment of UTI in low- and middle-income countries is needed to improve maternal and pregnancy outcomes."

Pembrolizumab-Induced Cytokine Release Syndrome in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
(ACAAI 2025)
- "Initially, the rash was attributed to amoxicillin-clavulanate since the patient had recently started a course for sinusitis and was sensitized to penicillin...His rash and fever responded to tocilizumab, consistent with CRS to his ICI therapy...4 A longer time to onset is associated with more severe symptoms and higher levels of IL-6, both of which were present in this case. Shared decision making should be employed regarding whether to continue pembrolizumab since continued infusions may cause additional harm."

Prescribing Patterns in Pediatric Cellulitis: A Multi-State Analysis Stratified by Penicillin Allergy Status
(ACAAI 2025)
- "Results Among 1,051,086 pediatric cellulitis patients, cephalexin was the most prescribed antibiotic (n=398,547; 37.92%), followed by mupirocin and amoxicillin/clavulanate. Of 28,871 patients with documented penicillin allergy, cephalexin (n=8,682; 30.07%) remained most prescribed, followed by TMP-SMX, clindamycin, and cefdinir...Conclusions Despite allergy labels, lower-cost β-lactams like cephalexin were still frequently prescribed, resulting in slightly lower average drug costs in the penicillin-allergic group. These findings support the need for improved allergy documentation, de-labeling strategies, and adherence to evidence-based guidelines to optimize both care quality and cost-effectiveness."

The Use of Gastrointestinal Reflux and Pro-Motility Medications in Hospitalized Infants with Congenital Heart Disease using the Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology Collaborative Registry
(AHA 2025)
- "Groups were compared based on the use of the following medications at discharge: histamine H2 antagonists, proton pump inhibitors, antacids, metoclopramide, erythromycin ethylsuccinate, or amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. Patients with SV CHD, those on elemental formula, tube assisted feeding and those with longer length of stays are more likely to be discharged on anti-reflux or pro-motility medications. An interesting finding is the positive association of the use of these medications with growth velocity prior to discharge specifically among SV patients. This suggests that these infants may have additional benefit from utilization of these medications at discharge."
