A Case of Legionella Pneumonia Suspected as Typical Pneumonia After Lung Cancer Surgery, Diagnosed by a Repeat Urinary Legionella Antigen Test.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "Outpatient urinary antigen tests for pneumococcus and Legionella were negative, and oral garenoxacin was initiated...Broad-spectrum β-lactams (sulbactam/ampicillin, followed by piperacillin/tazobactam) were ineffective...Subsequent targeted therapy with azithromycin (days 6-8 and 13-15), alongside levofloxacin, resulted in clinical improvement...This case report highlights that a single negative urinary antigen test does not rule out Legionella infection. We accordingly recommend early repeat antigen testing, ideally within one week, for postoperative pneumonia unresponsive to β-lactams, together with prompt macrolide or fluoroquinolone therapy."

Women's preferences for how health practitioners respond to coercive control by a partner: Open-ended survey qualitative analysis.
(PubMed, Aust J Gen Pract)
- "An open-ended question in an online survey asked women who had experienced coercive control: 'What words could your health practitioner say that you would find helpful and supportive?'. Responses (n = 682) were analysed using directed content analysis. Findings align with two global frameworks: LIVES (Listen-Inquire-Validate-Enhance safety-Support) and CARE (Choice and control-Action and advocacy-Recognition and understanding-Emotional connection). Specific script health messaging is provided for healthcare practitioners to use in conversations with victim-survivors of intimate partner violence, including to counter coercively controlling tactics by abusive partners. Findings re-inforce the need for health practitioners to provide a sensitive first-line response, with tailored messaging to counteract affects of coercive control. Training and system support are needed to build health practitioner capacity to identify and respond to coercive control in the..."

Instructive Interaction between Myelodysplastic Hematopoiesis and the Bone Marrow Microenvironment at Single Cell Level
(ASH 2023)
- "Myelodysplastic Neoplasms (MDS) are hypothesized to re-model their bone marrow (BM) microenvironment to re-inforce conditions for their propagation...In conclusion, we show that murine BM stroma is re-programmed by exposure to human MDS xenografts to upregulate extracellular matrix (ECM) re-modeling and HSC supporting factors. In native human MDS BM in vivo, rare primary mesenchymal cells are re-programmed to increase hematopoietic support in a patient-individual manner pointing to altered MSC subpopulations with increased growth factor expression profiles in a subgroup of MDS patients."

A systematic review and meta-analysis of the global prevalence of fluoroquinolone resistant Morganella morganii clinical isolates.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "The resistance rate also differed according to the type of fluoroquinolone, with the highest resistance recorded against the earlier-generation pefloxacin (88%), followed by nalidixic acid (27%), levofloxacin (25%), and ciprofloxacin (22%). There was no or lower resistance to newer fluoroquinolones, such as garenoxacin (0%)...Despite this variability, the results remain robust. Further studies are needed to explore the molecular mechanisms driving this resistance and potential therapeutic interventions."

Effects of injectable trace minerals (Se, Zn, Cu, and Mn) administration on the immune response elicited by primary intranasal modified-live virus vaccination in dairy calves.
(PubMed, Vet Res Commun)
- "A total of 60 calves (1 month old) were administered an IN MLV vaccine containing BHV1, BRSV, BPI3V (Inforce 3®) and randomly assigned to one of two experimental groups: ITM (n = 30; Multimin®90, containing Se, Cu, Zn, and Mn) or SAL (n = 30; sterile saline)...Administration of ITM was also associated with lower clinical scores and respiratory disease morbidity and mortality. Treatment with ITM did not affect SNA titers to BHV1 and BPI3V or the BHV1-specific IgA level in nasal secretions."

Circulating T cell subpopulations in dairy calves infected with Bovine viral diarrhea virus 2 and Bovine herpes virus 1 following modified-live virus booster vaccination: Effects of the administration route and trace mineral supplementation.
(PubMed, Vet Immunol Immunopathol)
- "Forty-eight calves were administered a MLV intranasal (IN) vaccine containing BHV1, BRSV, BPI3V (Inforce 3®), and randomly assigned to subcutaneous (SC) administration of injectable trace minerals (ITM, n = 24) or saline (SAL, n = 24)...In conclusion, vaccine administration route and use of injectable trace minerals concurrent with vaccination affected the number CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in response to BVDV2 +BHV1 infection. Trace minerals supplementation concurrent with MLV vaccination might generate an improved cellular immunity against viral infections involved in respiratory disease."

Solar Photodegradation of a Novel des-F(6)-Fluoroquinolone, Garenoxacin, and Ecotoxicity of Its Phototransformation Products.
(PubMed, Environ Sci Technol)
- "Toxicity tests with Vibrio fischeri and Chlorella vulgaris consistently indicate that the generation of hydroxylation and decarboxylation products during photodegradation of GRNX increased the acute toxicity. These findings not only provide insights into the fate of GRNX in sunlit surface water but also reveal the potentially significant risk of its photodegradation products to the aquatic ecosystem."

ADHERENCE TO bDMARDs IN BIOLOGIC-EXPERIENCED RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS: RESULTS FROM A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW
(EULAR 2024)
- "Three studies assessed anti-TNF therapies and one study assessed tocilizumab. Abatacept was evaluated in three papers as part of the same observational study, with differing population cohorts... This review supports that non-adherence to bDMARDs is common in biologic-experienced patients and with subsequent biologic therapies. Sustained non-adherence can undermine the full efficacious potential of bDMARDs. Our findings re-inforce the need to introduce and maintain interventions to diminish non-adherence specifically in the biologic experienced cohort."

Chemokine Ligand 14 Is a Pro-Fibrotic Stimulus in CKD Progression Through Regulating the GATA2 Transcription Factor
(KIDNEY WEEK 2022)
- "For in vivo validation, we used C57BL/6 unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model to re-inforce the CCL14/CCR1/GATA2 pathway in chronic kidney disease progression...Conclusion CCL14 could play a pro-fibrotic role in CKD progression via regulations of CCR1 receptor and GATA2 transcription factor. Since CCL14 acts not only as a biomarker of increased expression in CKD progression, but also as a direct pro-fibrotic stimulus, it can be considered as a target for the treatment of chronic kidney disease."
