A CASE OF CEFTRIAXONE-ASSOCIATED ENCEPHALOPATHY IN A PATIENT UNDERGOING PERITONEAL DIALYSIS
(ISN-WCN 2026)
- "CTRX-associated encephalopathy was suspected, and CTRX was discontinued on day 4 and replaced with ampicillin/sulbactam. This case highlights the importance of recognizing AAE as a potential cause of acute consciousness disturbance during antibiotic therapy. Early diagnosis, discontinuation of the offending agent, and consideration of dialysis are crucial for favorable outcomes in high-risk populations."

(ISN-WCN 2026)
- "Microbiology: Culture of the catheter tip revealed Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE), which was resistant to vancomycin...Management: DLC removal and administration of intravenous ampicillin-sulbactam and gentamicin.Case II: A 57-year-old man with renal failure undergoing HD was admitted with worsening shortness of breath and decreased consciousness (GCS E3V4M2) and a body temperature of 38.7°C...The first case involved a 30-year-old woman and the second a 57-year-old man. Both cases met the Modified Duke Criteria."

Analysis of perioperative antibiotic usage in the operating room during the 2019 cefazolin shortage in Japan: a multicenter observational study.
(PubMed, J Anesth)
- "The drop in CEZ supply reduced its perioperative use and increased reliance on alternative antimicrobials. The impact was less severe at facilities with multiple suppliers, suggesting supplier diversification may help mitigate future shortages. These findings, based on actual administration data from operating rooms across Japan, provide insights for ensuring a stable antibiotic supply."

The effect of papain on some bacterial pathogens in poultry meat.
(PubMed, Poult Sci)
- "coli resisted ampicillin/sulbactam (65-67%); Salmonella resisted ceftriaxone (88-91%) and penicillin (82-86%). In conclusion, poultry farms, especially turkey farms, harbor multidrug-resistant E. coli and Salmonella with clinically important ESBL/carbapenemase genes. Prudent antibiotic use, strengthened biosecurity, and papain-based interventions can mitigate food-safety risks."

Longitudinal Trends in Antimicrobial Susceptibility Among ECMO Patients With Gram-Negative Rods
(SCCM 2026)
- "We used AI-assisted tools for statistical coding and editorial refinement. Ertapenem maintained >95% susceptibility throughout all years. Meropenem showed a transient drop in 2022 (62.9%) but recovered to 100% by 2023...Ciprofloxacin susceptibility peaked in 2020–2021 before declining in 2023. Due to inconsistent data, piperacillin-tazobactam was excluded from trend analysis. Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns among GNRs in ECMO patients have fluctuated over the past five years. Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns among GNRs in ECMO patients have fluctuated over the past five years. Carbapenems remain reliable, while recovery of susceptibility to narrower-spectrum agents such as ampicillin-sulbactam and cefepime suggests a potential role for empiric antibiotic cycling. ECMO-specific antibiograms provide critical guidance for treatment and support the role of stewardship in curbing MDRO development in this high-risk population."

When the Brown Recluse Strikes Back: Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis After Loxosceles Envenomation
(AAD 2026)
- "Treatment: In the emergency department, the patient received intravenous (IV) fluids, vancomycin, cefepime, and ondansetron. Due to lack of improvement, he was switched to IV ampicillin-sulbactam and oral linezolid. Acetaminophen and morphine sulfate were added to the medication regimen. On day eight, the patient received 40mg of oral prednisone and was discharged the following morning after significant improvement."

Left Ventricular Apical Intracardiac Mass With Embolic Stroke During Aggregatibacter segnis Bacteremia Following Acute Cholangitis: A Case Report.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "An elderly woman with cholangiocarcinoma and a metallic biliary stent presented with fever and anorexia and was initially treated for acute cholangitis with biliary drainage and intravenous ampicillin/sulbactam...Follow-up TTE performed immediately after the neurological event showed the complete disappearance of the apical mass, suggesting embolization. This case highlights the importance of careful echocardiographic follow-up in patients with A. segnis bacteremia, even when initial imaging is unremarkable, particularly in the presence of apical wall-motion abnormalities that may alter intracardiac flow."

- "In both the checkerboard method and time-kill assay, DD-S052P demonstrated in vitro synergistic activity against CRAB isolates when combined with ampicillin/sulbactam, ceftolozane/tazobactam, and colistin. Our findings indicate that DD-S052P in combination with colistin may represent a promising therapeutic option for CRAB infections. Further research is required to elucidate the mechanisms by which DD-S052P overcomes existing carbapenem resistance and validate its clinical applicability."

Purring pathogen: Peritoneal dialysis peritonitis caused by Pasteurella multocida in a multicat household
(NKF-SCM 2026)
- "Empiric intraperitoneal vancomycin and cefepime were initiated with the addition of oral nystatin prophylaxis. Cultures were ultimately positive for Pasteurella multocida, with the plan to treat with intravenous (IV) ampicillin/sulbactam, followed by a 3-week course of oral amoxicillin/clavulanate and intraperitoneal cephalosporins...The patient remains infection-free while on hemodialysis at one-month follow-up. CONCLUSION This case illustrates the improtance of patient education in preventing peritoneal dialysis associated peritonitis, emphasizing the need to address pet exposure as an important modifiable risk factor"

Actinomycetoma Caused by Gordonia rubripertincta: Case Report.
(PubMed, Diagnostics (Basel))
- "Doxycycline treatment was ineffective...Although initial improvement was observed with amoxicillin-clavulanate treatment, the condition later worsened, requiring long-term penicillin therapy and eventual surgical excision...A six-week course of ampicillin-sulbactam and ciprofloxacin, along with offloading, decreased pain and stabilized radiological findings. This case underscores the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges associated with mycetoma, particularly in non-tropical regions."

Comparison of Two Different Doses of Ampicillin-Sulbactam as Part of Combination Therapy in the Treatment of Multidrug Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Ventilator Associated Pneumonia: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
(PubMed, Infect Drug Resist)
- "This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of low- versus high-dose ampicillin-sulbactam in combination of meropenem and colistin in patients with MDR Acinetobacter baumannii associated VAP. However, the small sample size, short follow-up period, and use of concomitant antibiotics limit attribution of outcomes solely to ampicillin-sulbactam dosing. Larger, well-controlled studies are needed to define the optimal dosing strategy."

Phenotypic Resistance of Ciprofloxacin and Azithromycin Resistant Campylobacter Isolates to an Extended Panel of Antibiotics.
(PubMed, bioRxiv)

Out of 236 Campylobacter isolates, over 85% of C. jejuni and C. coli were resistant to clindamycin, over 60% were resistant to ampicillin sulbactam and over 30% to fosfomycin. Less than 2% of isolates were resistant to tigecycline and there was no observed resistance to Imipenem."
