Subretinal transplantation of Human Central Nervous System Stem Cells stimulates controlled proliferation of endogenous retinal pigment epithelium
(ARVO 2019)
- "...Methods Human Central Nervous System Stem Cell (HuCNS-SC) populations positive for CD133 and CD224 were isolated from enzymatically treated brain tissue using flow cytometry...This study shows that transplantation of therapeutic stem cells into the back of the eye can stimulate sick or dysfunctional cells to self-renew in a controlled manner. These results suggest a new method that may be considered for developing cell based therapies for treating diseases of the retina."
