Prediction of Conserved Peptides of Paracoccidioides for Interferon-γ Release Assay: The First Step in the Development of a Lab-Based Approach for Immunological Assessment during Antifungal Therapy.
(PubMed, J Fungi (Basel))
- "Information on proteins secreted by two well-studied representative strains-Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (Pb18) and P. lutzii (Pb-01)-were explored using PubMed or MEDLINE...In our study, we predicted antigenic epitopes of Paracoccidioides that could bind to MHC class II and induce IFN-γ secretion. These T cell epitopes can be used in the development of a laboratory tool to monitor the CMI of patients with PCM."

Melanin as a Virulence Factor in Different Species of Genus Paracoccidioides.
(PubMed, J Fungi (Basel))
- "The results obtained showed that the isolates of genus Paracoccidioides: P. lutzii (Pb01, Pb66, ED01, Pb1578, and Pb8334), P. restrepiensis (PS3-Pb60855), P. brasiliensis (S1-Pb18), and P. americana (PS2-Pbcão) produce melanin in the presence of L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA)...We observed that melanin interferes with phagocytosis in the presence or absence of complement or heat-inactivated serum. This article confirms that different species of the genus Paracoccidioides produce melanin in different magnitudes and that the polymer functions as a virulence factor."

Exoantigens of Paracoccidioides spp. Promote Proliferation and Modulation of Human and Mouse Pulmonary Fibroblasts.
(PubMed, Front Cell Infect Microbiol)
- "Human pulmonary fibroblasts (MRC-5) and pulmonary fibroblasts isolated from BALB/c mice were cultivated with 2.5, 5, 10, 100, and 250 µg/ml of exoantigens produced from P. brasiliensis (Pb18 and Pb326) and P. lutzii (Pb01, Pb8334, and Pb66) isolates...The gp43 protein induced increased TGF-β1 production by human cells (p = 0.02). In conclusion, our findings showed for the first time that components of P. brasiliensis and P. lutzii interfered in fibrogenesis by directly acting on the biology of pulmonary fibroblasts."

Lactobacillus rhamnosus strains of oral and vaginal origin show strong antifungal activity in vitro.
(PubMed, J Oral Microbiol)

Paracoccidioides HSP90 Can Be Found in the Cell Surface and Is a Target for Antibodies with Therapeutic Potential.
(PubMed, J Fungi (Basel))
- "Using recombinant Paracoccidioides lutzii (Pb01) and P. brasiliensis (Pb18) HSP90 proteins produced in E. coli, we immunized mice and generated polyclonal antibodies and an IgG1 hybridoma mAb...The mAb successfully opsonized P. lutzii and P. brasiliensis cells in co-incubations with J774.16 macrophage-like cells. Our results suggest that this mAb could serve as the basis for new immunotherapy regimens for PCM."

Impact of seed-transmitted endophytic bacteria on intra- and inter-cultivar plant growth promotion modulated by certain sets of metabolites in rice crop.
(PubMed, Microbiol Res)
- "Nine bacterial endophytes, designated as PB001-PB009, were isolated and identified at the genus level through 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis...Metabolite profiling unfolded the abundance of few metabolites that are involved in pathways associated with PGP traits, in seedlings germinated from the endophyte-primed seeds. Together, the study documents the effect of seed-transmitted endophytic bacteria on intra- and inter-cultivar PGP by modulating certain sets of metabolites in rice plant, and is promising in developing bioinoculant formulations employing these selected endophytes for enhancement of rice productivity."

Updates and Comparative Analysis of the Mitochondrial Genomes of Paracoccidioides spp. Using Oxford Nanopore MinION Sequencing.
(PubMed, Front Microbiol)
- "(2011) obtained partial assemblies of mitochondrial genomes of P. lutzii (Pb01), P. americana (Pb03), and P. brasiliensis sensu stricto (Pb18), although with a size of only 43.1 kb for Pb18...The updated mtDNA genomes should enable more accurate SNP and other comparative or evolutionary analyses and primer/probe designs. A comparative analysis of the mtDNA from 32 isolates of Paracoccidioides spp., using the SNPs of the aligned mitochondrial genomes, showed groupings within the brasiliensis species complex that were largely consistent with previous findings from only five mitochondrial loci."

Paracoccidioides species present distinct fungal adherence to epithelial lung cells and promote different IL-8 secretion levels.
(PubMed, Med Microbiol Immunol)
- "In the present study, we demonstrate that yeasts of different isolates of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (Pb18 and Pb03) and Paracoccidioides lutzii (Pb01) distinctly promoted interleukin (IL)-8 secretion by the lung epithelial cell line A549...All Paracoccidioides isolates induced an expression increase of α3 and α5 integrins in A549 cells and, using small interfering RNA, we observed that the integrin silencing promoted a reduction of P. lutzii adhesion, which suggests the involvement of integrins in this event. Together, these results indicate that host epithelial cell response may depend on the isolate of Paracoccidioides."

Comparison of the RNA Content of Extracellular Vesicles Derived from Paracoccidioidesbrasiliensis and Paracoccidioides lutzii.
(PubMed, Cells)
- "We have presently used the RNA-seq strategy to compare the 200-nt RNA fractions contained in EVs isolated from culture supernatants of P. brasiliensis Pb18, Pb3, and P. lutzii Pb01...RNA-seq data suggest that extracellular fractions containing Pb18 EVs can modulate the transcriptome of murine monocyte-derived dendritic cells in a transwell system. Considering that sRNA classes are involved in transcription/translation modulation, our general results may indicate that differences in virulence among fungal isolates can be related to their distinct EV-RNA content."

Comparative genome analysis of Psychrobacillus strain PB01, isolated from an iceberg.
(PubMed, J Microbiol Biotechnol)
- "Notably, strain PB01 possess a complete TCA cycle consisting of eight enzymes as well as additional Helicobacter pylori type three enzymes: ferredoxin-dependent 2-oxoglutarate synthase, succinyl-CoA/acetoacetyl-CoA transferase, and malate/quinone oxidoreductase. The co-existence of the genes for TCA cycle enzymes are also identified in the other five Psychrobacillus strains."
