ME015 - PrEP in Europe: current gaps and solutions
(ESCMID Global 2025)
- "Despite being licensed and available on prescription, the "PrEP gap" (referring to individuals eligible for but not currently on PrEP) in Europe is still too large, hindering efforts toward HIV elimination. This session will describe the current situation regarding PrEP roll-out and standards of care in Europe, as well as address missed opportunities and factors impeding its wider spread use, such as resource or cost restrictions, war, migration, and solutions to improve the situation."

ON THE CORRELATION BETWEEN GASTROINTESTINAL SYMPTOMS AND SITES FOR ENDOSCOPIC BIOPSIES TO DIAGNOSE GRAFT-VERSUS-HOST DISEASE.
(DDW 2024)
- "Methods We analyzed the medical records of all patients hospitalized at Montefiore Medical Center (Jan 1 st 015- Jan 1 st 0 3) with diagnosed GVHD and GI symptoms who underwent both EGD and Colonoscopy with biopsies...Despite the limitation of a small cohort the anatomic distribution of GI symptoms with positive biopsies in GVHD was nearly absolute. Additional multicenter trials with larger cohorts are needed to further validate these results."

Inhibition of suplatast tosilate on EPSC in the single paratracheal ganglion neurons attached with presynaptic boutons.
(PubMed, J Neurophysiol)
- "Using single neurons of rat paratracheal ganglia (PTG) attached with presynaptic boutons, the effects of suplatast tosilate on excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSC) were investigated with nystatin-perforated patch-clamp recording technique. Suplatast also inhibited the EPSCs potentiated by bradykinin (BK), but it did not affect the potentiation itself by BK. Thus, suplatast inhibited the EPSC of PTG neurons attached with presynaptic boutons at both of presynaptic and postsynaptic sites."

Genetic Diversity and New Sequence Types of Escherichia coli Coharboring β-Lactamases and PMQR Genes Isolated from Domestic Dogs in Central Panama.
(PubMed, Genes (Basel))
- "In the intestinal strains of E. coli isolated from domestic dogs, there was a high frequency of resistance to antibiotics. The presence of genes from plasmids and chromosomal mutations that conferred antibiotic resistance, the identification of isolates previously reported in humans, and the genetic diversity of STs (including three that were newly identified) confirmed the determinants of resistance to antibiotics in the domestic dogs from central Panama."

Prevalence of Heavy Metal and Disinfectant Resistance Genes in Salmonella Enterica and Their Association with Antibiotic Resistance
(ASM Microbe 2022)
- "The ars(B) gene was detected only in serotypes Saint Paul (ST50) and Coeln (ST2015), while the genes merA, silA and pcoA were widely distributed across multiple serotypes and STs...In conclusion, this study demonstrates the association of HMR and DR genes in the acquisition of antimicrobial resistance genes. Moreover, the wide distribution of these genes across different STs and serotypes reflect their widespread mobility and selection due to the accumulation of metals in the environment."

Molecular Characterization of Klebsiella Pneumoniae and Enterobacter Cloacae Isolates Harboring BlaOXA-181 and BlaOXA-48
(ASM Microbe 2022)
- "While EFN299 belonged to ST11, EFN262 belonged to ST5015... This study underscores the significant contribution of IncX3 and IncL in the dissemination of resistance genes. The efficient transfer of these plasmids among the bacterial species calls for regular monitoring to control the expansion of resistant strains"

Successful use of montelukast in eosinophilic gastroenteritis: a case report and a literature review.
(PubMed, BMC Gastroenterol)
- "Montelukast may be an effective treatment for eosinophilic gastroenteritis, either alone or in combination with systemic steroids or ketotifen. Our patient is the second reported adult case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis who responded to montelukast alone as a first line therapy. Further studies and clinical trials are required to confirm efficacy compared to standard therapy."

The effect on patient life quality of prophylactic treatment to seasonal allergic rhinitis and related transcriptomics research
(PubMed, Zhonghua Yu Fang Yi Xue Za Zhi)
- "Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) verification of differentially expressed genes indicated that the relative expression level of HLA-G in prophylactic group was significantly lower than that in control group (0.23±0.19 vs 1.00±0.49,t=4.016, P=0.006). The prophylactic treatment of suplatast tosilate showed some benefit to the life quality of seasonal AR patients during the pollen season, and the potential mechanism might be related with the downregulation of IL-12 and IL-23 pathways and decreased expression of HLA-G."

Suplatast tosilate in patients with interstitial cystitis: Efficacy and treatment possibilities, with suggestions for future assessments.
(PubMed, Int J Urol)
- "Comparison of interstitial cystitis symptom score changes suggested that the placebo effect was very small. Use of diagnostic hydrodistention was considered to be a major difference in the population characteristics of the studies and may have resulted in different observed efficacies. Diagnostic hydrodistention, which potentially influences the treatment effect, is probably not essential for trials of suplatast in interstitial cystitis patients."
