Impact of Patient and Disease Characteristics on the Effectiveness of Vonoprazan in Chinese Patients With Reflux Esophagitis: Post-Hoc Analysis of the Multicenter Prospective VIEW Study
(ACG 2025)
- P=N/A | "Among the 1877 patients included in the RE safety analysis population, mean (SD) age was 49.7 (13.4) years and body mass index (SD) was 24.1 (3.5) kg/m2; 64.4% were male. The mean (SD) heartburn frequency score decreased from 1.3 (1.20) at baseline to 0.5 (0.84) at week 4 (mean change: −0.8; 95% CI: −0.90, −0.78); the regurgitation frequency score decreased from 1.4 (1.16) at baseline to 0.6 (0.91) at week 4 (mean change: −0.8; 95% CI: −0.83, −0.71); difficulty getting good night's sleep due to heartburn/regurgitation decreased from 0.9 (1.09) at baseline to 0.3 (0.70) at week 4 (mean change: −0.6; 95% CI: −0.61, −0.50); and the frequency of taking additional medication for heartburn/regurgitation decreased from 0.5 (0.96) at baseline to 0.1 (0.54) at week 4 (mean change: −0.3; 95% CI: −0.38, −0.28) (Table 1). Improvements in symptom frequencies persisted across the subgroup categories by age, RE severity, and hiatal hernia size."

Point spread function measurements for underwater imaging: an analysis of wavelength-specific behavior for image deconvolution.
(PubMed, Opt Express)
- "Image deconvolutions of a test target with correct and wrong color PSF indicate the relevance of wavelength-specific PSF consideration, especially in correcting channels of longer wavelengths. The results also indicate, that PSFs derived from models that are based on single wavelength PSF measurements can be used to effectively restore images at different wavelength when acquired over long scattering ranges and being scaled properly."

Unique Case of Vanishing Bile Duct Syndrome Exacerbated by Noncompliance
(ACG 2024)
- "She was treated with cholestyramine, ursodiol, simethicone, maalox, and prednisolone. The patient was prescribed both amoxicillin and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid within a 3 month period which points to dose-dependent cause, which differs from the more documented idiosyncratic cause. This case was unique because of the exacerbated nature of disease due to noncompliance."

Rare Incidence of Granular Cell Tumor in the Esophagus Causing Obstructive and Reflux Symptoms
(ACG 2023)
- "Symptoms were uncontrolled despite home medications including pantoprazole, famotidine, Maalox and sucralfate as well as a high fiber diet...He further reported episodes of constipation for which he was started on metoclopramide...There was sonographic evidence suggesting parenchymal invasion into the trachea (manifested by abutment). Figure 1c: Endoscopic ultrasound guided core biopsy of the esophageal lesion using H&E Stain shows diffuse proliferation of uniform epithelioid cells with abundant eosinophilic granular cytoplasm and small nuclei in muscularis propria (blue arrow), consistent with a granular cell tumor."

Results From Phase I Studies Investigating the Dose Linearity of Finerenone Tablets and the Influence of Food or pH-Modifying Comedications on its Pharmacokinetics in Healthy Male Volunteers.
(PubMed, Eur J Drug Metab Pharmacokinet)
- "The pharmacokinetics of the finerenone film-coated tablet were linear. High-fat, high-calorie food had no clinically relevant effect on the pharmacokinetics of finerenone. In addition, pH-modifying comedications were not found to alter the pharmacokinetics of finerenone and were deemed safe for co-administration."

[VIRTUAL] SPONTANEOUS PNEUMOMEDIASTINUM DUE TO SUSPECTED OCCULT ESOPHAGEAL PERFORATION WITH CO-EXISTENT INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE
(CHEST 2021)
- "In the ED she was given broad spectrum antibiotics, fluids, pepcid, lidocaine and maalox and all oral intake was then held. As with our case, spontaneous pneumomediastinum even with concomitant interstitial fibrosis, can be due to a prior esophageal microperforation etiology in an older female, and be stably managed without significant invasive interventions."

Effects of Magnesium, Calcium, and Aluminum Chelation on Fluoroquinolone Absorption Rate and Bioavailability: A Computational Study.
(PubMed, Pharmaceutics)
- "However, when administered orally, reduced absorption and bioavailability can occur due to chelation in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) with multivalent metal cations acquired from diet, coadministered compounds (sucralfate, didanosine), or drug formulation. Quantum mechanical calculations elucidated FQ-metal binding energies, which were leveraged to predict the magnitude of reduced bioavailability via a quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR). This work will help inform clinical FQ formulation design, alert to possible dietary effects, and shed light on drug-drug interactions resulting from coadministration at an earlier stage in the drug development pipeline."

[VIRTUAL] Comparing Clinical Outcomes of GI Cocktail versus Antacid alone
(ASHP 2020)
- "The goal of this study was to assess the efficacy of GI Cocktail (10 ml dicyclomine, 30 ml Maalox™, and 10 ml viscous lidocaine) vs. antacid (Maalox™/Mylanta). Previous clinical trials1-7 have shown the use of GI cocktail having no improvement in symptoms or pain versus antacid alone. One previous double-blinded study compared Mylanta alone, Mylanta and Donnatal, or Mylanta, Donnatal and lidocaine to assess which combination provided the most relief of dyspepsia in emergency room patients. Their results concluded that the addition of Donnatal or Donnatal plus lidocaine did not significantly relieve dyspepsia more than antacid alone4."
