Bimekizumab in Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris: an Innovative Therapeutic Option
(AAD 2026)
- "We present an 81-year-old male patient with a past medical history of hypertension and arrythmias, on lisinopril and metoprolol tartrate, with no recent lifestyle or medication changes who presented with a diffuse rash. No clear pathogenesis has been established for PRP, outside of inherited mutations of CARD14. This case demonstrates the efficacy and utility of bimekizumab as a treatment option in PRP refractory to classic therapeutic options."

Occurrence and Ecotoxicological Risks of Pharmaceuticals and Illicit Drugs in Effluent and Unsheltered Homelessness-Impacted River Systems.
(PubMed, Arch Environ Contam Toxicol)
- "Several PIDs were found to be ubiquitous in the effluent-impacted sites (e.g. lidocaine, metoprolol tartrate, diclofenac acid and methamphetamine). Pharmaceuticals except sulfamethoxazole were detected at concentrations far below Predicted-no effect concentration (PNEC) values across all effluent and unsheltered homelessness-impacted river systems, indicating negligible (low) or moderate ecological risks to algae and crustaceans. However, relying solely on single-compound risk assessment might underestimate cumulative ecological risk."

Acute Onset of Achalasia in a Patient With Metoprolol Initiation
(ACG 2025)
- "The patient declined repeat manometry. This case described a patient with acute onset of type III achalasia after initiation of metoprolol tartrate, with complete resolution after switching to carvedilol. Further studies are warranted to explore the effects of different BB formulations on EGJOO.Figure: Figure 1 – Repeat Barium Esophagram on day 17 with dilated esophagus and disorganized peristalsis. Figure: Figure 2 - High Resolution Manometry Performed on Day 18 Showed Elevated LES Integrated Relaxation Pressure and Shortened Distal Latency."

AORTIC DISSECTION IN AUTOIMMUNE HEPATITIS: THE INFLAMMATORY LINK TO CATASTROPHIC VASCULAR EVENTS
(CHEST 2025)
- "CASE PRESENTATION: A 69-year-old female with a history of MS and AIH on azathioprine presented to the emergency department (ED) with acute severe headache, confusion, and upper extremity heaviness...An esmolol drip was initiated per protocol and cardiothoracic surgery was consulted, she was then emergently transferred to a tertiary center for surgery...Intraoperative biopsy of the aorta showed hemorrhage with mixed acute and chronic inflammation. Her post-operative course was complicated by new-onset atrial fibrillation requiring amiodarone which was later transitioned to Lopressor and volume overload with hypoxic respiratory failure necessitating BiPAP and heated high-flow oxygen therapy... This case underscores a rare occurrence of aortic dissection in a patient with AIH and MS. While traditional risk factors were absent, underlying autoimmune inflammation may have contributed. Further studies are necessary to clarify the association between autoimmune diseases and..."

SUICIDE ATTEMPT VIA OVERT FLECAINIDE OVERDOSE
(CHEST 2025)
- "During her stay in CCU, patient converted into AFib with RVR, uncontrolled with Metoprolol Tartrate 5mg x3 and was subsequently started on Diltiazem drip. Given how rare flecainide toxicity is in clinical practice, it is important to have a high index of suspicion anti-arrhythmogenic overdose in patients presenting with cardiac conduction abnormalities and prior atrial fibrillation, especially in those with psychiatric comorbidities. The mainstay of treatment remains supportive care, sodium bicarbonate supplementation, and where appropriate, lipid emulsion."

FLECAINIDE FALLOUT: NAVIGATING WIDE, COMPLEX TACHYCARDIA AND PACEMAKER CAPTURE LOSS
(CHEST 2025)
- "CASE PRESENTATION: An 81-year-old female with a past medical history of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) on metoprolol tartrate, and flecainide, sick sinus syndrome (SSS) status post (s/p) Boston Scientific dual chamber permanent pacemaker presented with complaints of lethargy and dizziness...Additional treatments may include antiarrhythmics like amiodarone or lidocaine, intravenous fat emulsion, or pacing for bradyarrhythmias... Flecainide toxicity is diagnosed clinically, and drug levels are not necessary for diagnosis since it takes time for results to be available. Prior to starting flecainide therapy, pacemaker settings should be adjusted as the drug can improve ventricular capture. However, flecainide toxicity can increase the risk of pacemaker failure by raising the capture threshold."

A NEW HURDLE: NEW-ONSET ATRIAL FIBRILLATION IN JEUNE THORACIC DYSTROPHY
(CHEST 2025)
- "On the second day of admission, developed new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) with rapid ventricular response and was treated with digoxin and amiodarone...For his paroxysmal AF, the patient was discharged with Eliquis for stroke prophylaxis and metoprolol tartrate for rate control... This case highlights the potential for cardiac complications in patients with rare skeletal dysplasia that leads a restrictive lung disease. While Jeune thoracic dystrophy mainly affects his respiratory function, the complication of his chronic respiratory failure plays a part in the development of his new-onset AF. This underscores the importance of monitoring cardiac function in older patients with Jeune thoracic dystrophy."

When Pain Puts Your Heart in the Fast Lane: A Case of Ventricular Tachycardia Induced by Pain From Rib Fracture.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "She was evaluated by electrophysiology, who recommended initiating metoprolol tartrate, as the working diagnosis was thought to be RMVT. She underwent cardiac catheterization, which showed non-obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). Upon further evaluation, she was found to have right-sided rib fractures that were not seen on the initial workup...Her tachycardia was resolved with beta blockers. The patient was discharged in a stable condition with electrophysiology follow-up for considering ablation."

Antimicrobial Stability, pH, and Physical Appearance of Cardiovascular Drug Suspensions in SyrSpend® SF PH4: A Complementary Evaluation.
(PubMed, Int J Pharm Compd)
- "Nine oral formulations of seven cardiovascular drug suspensions were included: amlodipine (as besylate) 1.0 mg/mL, enalapril maleate 1.0 mg/mL, hydrochlorothiazide 2.0 and 5.0 mg/mL, lisinopril (as dihydrate) 1.0 mg/mL, metoprolol tartrate 10.0 mg/mL, pentoxifylline 20.0 mg/mL, and spironolactone 2.0 and 2.5 mg/mL. All formulations met USP criteria for antimicrobial effectiveness, while maintaining stable pH values and no relevant changes in physical appearance throughout the study. These results, when combined with previously demonstrated chemical stability (HPLC), confirm that SyrSpend® SF PH4 is a robust and reliable vehicle for preservative-free extemporaneous oral liquid formulations, supporting its safe use within USP-compliant BUD limits."

Optimizing heart rate with metoprolol prior to coronary CT angiography: a dose-response analysis in a large cohort
(ESC-WCC 2025)
- "Patients were categorized based on the applied metoprolol preparation strategy: group 1, no metoprolol; group 2, metoprolol succinate 1-3 days before CCTA; group 3, metoprolol tartrate at the intake of CCTA; group 4, succinate and additional tartrate before CCTA. Tartrate was more effective, particularly in patients without prior succinate preparation. Doses of 100 mg are recommended for most patients with an HR >65 bpm, further guided by patient characteristics."

The impact of glidant addition on continuous blending of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
(PubMed, Int J Pharm)
- "Two cohesive APIs (acetaminophen micronized and metoprolol tartrate) and three different glidants (Aerosilprotect relax special {t4ht=®} 200, Aerosilprotect relax special {t4ht=®} R972 and Syloidprotect relax special {t4ht=®} 244 FP) were included...Moreover, adding higher concentrations of glidants can even increase RSDBU due to fluidization segregation and less paddle interactions. However, overall the RSDBU values obtained with the continuous blender were relatively low."
