Case Report: From Misdiagnosis to Accurate Identification: Managing a Case Series of Trichophyton rubrum Infections.
(PubMed, Microorganisms)
- "This case series of five instances of misdiagnosed T. rubrum dermatophytosis was later accurately diagnosed and successfully treated with systemic terbinafine hydrochloride 250 mg/die for at least four weeks up to twelve or sixteen, and topical azoles (sertaconazole nitrate 2%) as well. This case series highlights the need to make an accurate diagnosis and avoid misidentifications while offering insightful information about the clinical presentation and treatment of these illnesses."

Azole Antifungal Consumption in Community Pharmacy Sales in Mainland Portugal: Trend Analysis from 2014 to 2023.
(PubMed, Antibiotics (Basel))
- "This study aimed to analyze the consumption of medically prescribed azole antifungal drugs in mainland Portugal from 2014 to 2023, focusing on those directed to genital infections: fluconazole, isoconazole, itraconazole, and sertaconazole. Additionally, the defined daily dose (DDD) per 1000 inhabitants per day for fluconazole and itraconazole was lower compared to estimates from the last available survey (2009). Although our findings represent a lesser pressure on fungi, further monitoring is needed to better understand the evolution of fluconazole and itraconazole consumption over time, particularly due to the trends observed in this study."

Synthesis and antibacterial evaluation of novel benzo[b]thiophene derivatives | Poster Board #1814
(ACS-Sp 2024)
- "Benzo[ b ]thiophene has proven to be an important biological core structure in the development of pharmaceuticals and is present in several FDA-approved drugs, such as raloxifene, zileuton, and sertaconazole. Preliminary results have indicated the addition of some groups may increase the antibacterial activity of the benzo[ b ]thiophene derivatives while addition of certain groups decrease the activity of the compounds. In conclusion, this project will give strides towards identifying more potent benzo[ b ]thiophene derivatives with broader efficacy against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria."

(ACS-Sp 2024)
- "Benzo(b)thiophene is a core structure that has shown promising biological activity in previous studies and is already a core structure in FDA approved medications like sertaconazole and raloxifene. It is hypothesized that the remodeling of the C25 benzo[ b ]thiophene structure with varying substituents will lead to successful microbial inhibition. In conclusion, this project intends to assist in the search for potent antifungal compounds with extensive effectiveness against diverse fungi species."

Therefore, the suggested cubic phase based on lyotropic liquid crystals could represent a valid proposal as a vaginal drug delivery system due to its characteristics of resistance, adhesion and the possibility of providing a slow and controlled release of drugs directly at the administration site."

At the control of the 2nd week:disappearance of the lesions was noted in 95% of patients (n=18) in group B, versus 25% (n=5) of patients in group A. At the control of the 3rd week: disappearance of the lesions was reported in 70% (n=14) of the patients in group A, while maintenance of the treatment for 4 weeks was necessary in 30% (n=6) of the patients to obtain complete healing.
