Genetic or Epigenetic CR1 Deficiency Defines Catastrophic Antiphospholipid Syndrome (CAPS) and Response to Complement Inhibition
(ASH 2024)
- "Notably the one thrombotic event on C5i occurred in the postoperative period in the setting of delayed C5i administration (1 week late). Conclusion : CR1 deficiency, due to genetic or epigenetic down-regulation identifies a subset of CAPS that is particularly responsive to C5i."

Soluble tissue factor generated by necroptosis-triggered shedding is responsible for thrombosis.
(PubMed, Cell Res)
- "We also detected sTF in the plasma of human COVID-19 patients and showed that SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus induced sTF production. Our findings demonstrated that the sTF plays a major role in thrombosis under necroptosis-related pathological conditions and provided a diagnostic marker and potential therapies for treating thrombosis without affecting hemostasis."

Impact of Heat Treatment Parameters on the Plastic Properties of 6061 Aluminum Alloy.
(PubMed, Materials (Basel))
- "Additionally, the elongation of 6061 aluminum alloy initially decreases and then increases as the aging time increases. Based on the experiments, a Hansel-Spittel constitutive model was developed, incorporating temperature, strain rate, and strain effects to accurately predict the flow stress of 6061 aluminum alloy under varying heat treatment conditions."

Regulate catalytic performance by engineering non-regular structure of extradiol dioxygenase: An entrance to bottom strategy.
(PubMed, Int J Biol Macromol)
- "kcat value of P183S/V186L (SL) towards monocyclic catechols significantly surpasses any other combinatorial mutants around Tcu3516 active sites. Moreover, the synergetic effects on conformational plasticity were analyzed by molecular dynamic simulations to shed light into the interplay between structural changes and catalytic performance."

Engineering non-conservative substrate recognition sites of extradiol dioxygenase: Computation guided design to diversify and accelerate degradation of aromatic compounds.
(PubMed, Int J Biol Macromol)
- "Except for 2,3-DHB (the mutant V186L/D285A gave the best catalytic performance), the triple mutant prevailed all other 5 catecholic compounds for their degradation; affording the catalytic efficiency kcat/Km value increase by 10-30 folds, protein Tm (structural rigidity) increase by 15 °C and the half-life time enhancement by 10 times compared to the wild type Tcu3516. The molecular dynamic simulation suggested that a stabler core and a more flexible entrance are likely accounting for enhanced catalytic activity and stability of enzymes."

Sulfate reduction behavior in response to changing of pressure coupling with temperature inside landfill.
(PubMed, Waste Manag)
- "Key SRB (Desulfosporosinus-ASV212, Desulfitibacter-ASV1744) mediated differentiated sulfate reduction behavior in the pressure-bearing environment at 25 °C, while key SRB (Dethiobacter-ASV177, Desulfitibacter-ASV2355 and ASV316) were involved at 50 °C. This study provides a theoretical basis for the formulation of landfill gas management and control strategies."

Enhancing the Catalytic Activity of Glycolate Oxidase from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii through Semi-Rational Design.
(PubMed, Microorganisms)
- "The semi-rational design of the fusion enzyme GST-Gly-Ser-Gly-CreGO led to the superior variant GST-Gly-Ser-Gly-CreGO-Y27S/V111G/V212R with the k/K value of 29.2 s·mM, which was six times higher than that of the wild type. In contrast to GST-Gly-Ser-Gly-CreGO, 5 mg/mL of crude enzyme GST-Gly-Ser-Gly-CreGO-Y27S/V111G/V212R together with 25 μg/mL of catalase catalyzed the oxidation of 300 mM of methyl glycolate for 8 h, increasing the yield from 50.4 to 93.5%."

Hemophilia A subjects with an intron-22 gene inversion mutation show CD4 T-effector responses to multiple epitopes in FVIII.
(PubMed, Front Immunol)
- "Furthermore, the FVIII region encoded by the exon 22-23 junction sequence was not remarkably immunoreactive and is therefore unlikely to contain an immunodominant, promiscuous CD4 T-cell epitope. Our results indicate that putative intracellular expression of partial FVIII proteins does not confer T-cell tolerance to FVIII regions encoded by inverted F8 mRNA or F8B mRNA."

A novel 7-base pair deletion at a splice site in MS-2 impairs male fertility via premature tapetum degradation in common bean (Phaseolis vulgaris L.).
(PubMed, Theor Appl Genet)
- "The ms-2 mutant plants produce many small parthenocarpic pods, and the size of the pods can be doubled by external application of 2 mM indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Our results demonstrate that a novel mutation in PvTKPR2 impairs male fertility through premature degradation of the tapetum."

Rare Germline Mutations in Complement Regulatory Genes Make the Antiphospholipid Syndrome Catastrophic
(ASH 2019)
- "APS serum activates complement in vitro shown by a functional assay (mHam) and increased C5b-9 deposition on the cell surface. A positive mHam test strongly associates with both recent thrombosis and triple positive APS. Purified human anti-B2GPI antibody from APS patients activates complement when added to normal human serum, suggesting that complement activation plays a pathophysiologic role in APS associated thrombosis."
