Phenotypic Resistance of Campylobacter Isolates to an Extended Panel of Antibiotics.
(PubMed, Am J Trop Med Hyg)
- "Because of the global increase in resistance of Campylobacter to both fluoroquinolones and macrolides, we explored phenotypic resistance using traditional Kirby-Bauer methods in human- and animal-derived Campylobacter isolates that were concurrently resistant to both azithromycin and ciprofloxacin to an expanded panel of antimicrobials, including clindamycin, fosfomycin, ampicillin and sulbactam, amoxicillin and clavulanic, fosfomycin, tigecycline, and imipenem. The results suggest that amoxicillin and clavulanic warrant further evaluation for use in Campylobacter enteritis in ambulatory patients, but it points to no clear alternative oral therapies. Study findings were reassuring in demonstrating continued universal susceptibility to carbapenems."

Genomic identification, pangenome analysis, and antimicrobial resistance of Aeromonas spp. isolated from food and foodborne outbreaks.
(PubMed, Int J Food Microbiol)
- "All isolates encoded β-lactamase resistance genes, and 90.5% (38/42) of these were conferred resistance to ampicillin and amoxicillin-sulbactam, with the 95% confidence interval (CI) of 77.9%-96.2%. This study emphasized the pathogenic potential and antimicrobial resistance profiles of Aeromonas species. Continuous monitoring of resistance patterns and contamination levels in food products is crucial for minimizing infection risks and preventing disease outbreaks caused by Aeromonas spp."

Transatlantic disparities in perioperative antibiotic stewardship for head and neck surgery: an international survey
(AHNS 2026)
- "Antibiotic agents markedly differed: amoxicillin/sulbactam led for complex C/C HNSCC (61-64%), followed by cefazolin in NA (42.6%) while cefuroxime was favored in EU (33.3%) and virtually absent in NA (2.8%). Clindamycin use was low overall (8–11%)... To our knowledge, this is the largest-ever international survey on perioperative antibiotic use in head and neck surgery and it exposes stark transatlantic heterogeneity. Persistent overuse in clean thyroid procedures, prolonged prophylaxis courses exceeding evidence-based recommendations, and marked regional differences in cephalosporin selection highlight the need for internationally harmonized, evidence-based antibiotic stewardship protocols. In the era of perioperative immunotherapy, rational antibiotic use may impact not only infection control but microbiome integrity and oncological outcomes."

Molecular and phylogenetic characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from primary pyoderma in a goat from tropical India: an emerging zoonotic threat.
(PubMed, Vet Res Commun)
- "The isolate was catalase positive and exhibited sensitivity to tetracycline, gentamicin, amoxicillin-sulbactam, ceftriaxone-tazobactam, and streptomycin, but showed resistance to multiple antibiotics. The genetic proximity to human pathogenic strains across diverse regions highlighted the broad host range of the bacterium. The findings of present study underscore the need for molecular surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, and integrated One Health strategies to mitigate emerging zoonotic threats, particularly in regions with frequent human-livestock contact."

Antimicrobial susceptibility of Porphyromonas spp. isolated from dogs with periodontal disease in South Korea.
(PubMed, Front Vet Sci)
- "Resistance was detected in six isolates (15%) to penicillin, three (7.5%) to imipenem, three (7.5%) to meropenem, 15 (25%) to clindamycin, and seven (17.5%) to ampicillin. No resistance was observed to ampicillin/sulbactam, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, cefotetan, cefoxitin, metronidazole, chloramphenicol, piperacillin, tetracycline, mezlocillin, or piperacillin/tazobactam. These findings provide crucial insights into the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of canine oral Porphyromonas spp. and highlight the importance of judicious antimicrobial use in veterinary dentistry."

Clinical epidemiological characteristics and antibiotic sensitivity of Escherichia coli urinary tract infection.
(PubMed, PLoS One)
- "Urinary tract infections caused by E. coli are predominantly community acquired, accounting for 84.5%(339/401), and most cases involved ESBL-negative strains. Therefore, third-generation cephalosporins remain the preferred choice for empirical treatment, while quinolones and second-generation cephalosporins are not recommended. Subsequently, the treatment regimen can be de-escalated based on confirmed infection type and patient condition, an approach that has been associated with reduced hospitalization."

Clinical characteristics and influencing factors of severe influenza A virus pneumonia in children coinfected with gram-negative bacteria: A retrospective analysis.
(PubMed, J Int Med Res)
- "In the observation group, all H. influenzae isolates were sensitive to ceftriaxone, cefotaxime and meropenem, while resistance rates to ampicillin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, cefuroxime and ampicillin/sulbactam were 60.4%, 75%, 27.8% and 6.2%, respectively. All M. catarrhalis isolates were sensitive to ampicillin/sulbactam, amoxicillin/sulbactam and ciprofloxacin, whereas resistance rates to ampicillin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole were 67.9% and 10.7%, respectively.ConclusionSevere influenza A virus pneumonia complicated by gram-negative bacterial infection is more common in children aged <5 years. Younger age and the presence of underlying diseases increase the likelihood of gram-negative bacterial coinfection. Persistent fever, wheezing and significant elevations in C-reactive protein level, procalcitonin level, platelet count and monocyte count are important early warning signs for the clinical identification of gram-negative bacterial infection."

False equivalence: differences in the in vitro activity of ampicillin-sulbactam and amoxicillin-clavulanate in several Enterobacterales species.
(PubMed, JAC Antimicrob Resist)
- "Isolates of E. coli, K. pneumoniae group and P. mirabilis with susceptibility profiles consistent with ESBL production (ceftriaxone resistant and cefoxitin susceptible) were more likely to be susceptible to AMC but not susceptible to SAM than isolates without this susceptibility phenotype (E. coli, 38% versus 27%, P < 0.0001; K. pneumoniae group: 40% versus 10%, P < 0.0001; P. mirabilis: 24% versus 6%, P < 0.0001). The high prevalence of SAM-not susceptible, AMC-susceptible isolates supports reporting AST results for both SAM and AMC to maximize options for antimicrobial therapy and to support antimicrobial stewardship."

The correlation between antibiotic usage and antibiotic resistance: a 3-year retrospective study.
(PubMed, Front Cell Infect Microbiol)
- "Cefoperazone/sulbactam, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, ceftriaxone, and ceftazidime showed significant changes in susceptibility for K. pneumoniae over time. Regarding the correlation between antibiotic usage and antibiotic resistance, Pearson's correlation was 0.777 (p = 0.433), which is suggestive of a strong positive correlation between third-generation cephalosporin usage and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), whereas Pearson's correlation was 0.762 (p = 0.448), which also suggests strong positive correlation between carbapenem usage and CREs. The correlation between the use of third-generation cephalosporins and ESBL rate, as well as the use of carbapenems and CRE rate, further suggests that controlling certain antibiotic usage could help mitigate the rise in MDR microorganisms."

Antimicrobial Resistance Profile of Escherichia coli Isolated from Raw Chicken Meat in a Selected Wet Market in Manila City, Philippines.
(PubMed, Acta Med Philipp)
- "High resistance rates were observed against ampicillin (92%), tetracycline (88%), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (83%), chloramphenicol (79%), ampicillin-sulbactam (75%), amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (67%), fosfomycin (67%), and streptomycin (54%). The majority of the E. coli isolates were still susceptible to a wide range of selected antimicrobial agents, including carbapenems (100%), ceftriaxone (100%), cefepime (100%), cefuroxime (96%), cefotaxime (96%), ceftazidime (96%), piperacillin-tazobactam (96%), aztreonam (96%), cefoxitin (92%), and nitrofurantoin (83%), among others...This study suggests that chickens in wet markets can potentially serve as reservoir hosts for drug-resistance genes, which could transfer to other bacteria and contaminate humans, animals, and the environment within the food production and supply chain. These findings emphasize the need for AMR surveillance and strategies to combat AMR in the Philippines through the One Health approach."

(PubMed, Front Microbiol)
- "Both isolates were multidrug resistant, with insusceptibility to ampicillin, ampicillin/sulbactam, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, cefuroxime, ceftiofur, cefazolin, cefoxitin, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, cefepime, ceftazidime/avibactam, meropenem, imipenem, ertapenem, tetracycline, gentamicin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, florfenicol, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, colistin, and polymixin B. The bla NDM-5-carrying plasmids in 2023JX045 and 2024-406 were named p23045-NDM5 and p2024406-NDM5, respectively, with both belonging to the incompatibility (Inc)HI2/IncHI2A group and sequence type ST3. IS26-flanked composite transposons appeared to play an important role in the formation of this region. Genetic determinants underlying the progressive phenotype of β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor resistance in Escherichia coli.
(PubMed, Microbiol Spectr)
