EYEGENE publishes study on AAV-based macular degeneration treatment candidate in peer-reviewed journal
(BioNews)
- "According to the company, aflibercept inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to prevent abnormal neovascularization, while COMP-Ang1 activates the angiopoietin-1 receptor (Tie2) on the surface of vascular endothelial cells, thereby stabilizing damaged vascular barriers and reducing vascular leakage...While existing therapies primarily focus on preventing abnormal blood vessel formation, EYEGENE is pursuing a dual mechanism of action that additionally helps maintain the stability of existing vasculature...In an adult rat model of laser-induced choroidal neovascularization (L-CNV), the area of abnormal neovascularization decreased as the administered dose increased. At the highest dose, the candidate demonstrated an antiangiogenic effect comparable to that of Eylea, a widely used standard therapy."
