Comparison of intravenous ibuprofen pharmacokinetics between Caucasian and Chinese populations using physiologically based pharmacokinetics modeling and simulation.
(PubMed, Eur J Pharm Sci)
- "This study indicates that the pharmacokinetic profile and the parameters of intravenous ibuprofen are analogous in Caucasian and Chinese populations, either adults or children. In addition, this study provides effective evidence that the dosing scheme of intravenous ibuprofen in Chinese children can remain the same as the regimen that the original company (Caldolor®) provided."

3 ways you may be able to boost your vaccine response
- "'Get a vaccine when it is most convenient to you. Immune cells circulate around the body 24/7. But if you can prioritize getting it in the morning, you may get a small advantage,' said Chin-Hong....'Both Tylenol and NSAIDs like ibuprofen may prevent inflammation and theoretically reduce the ability of the immune system to respond to a vaccine,' said Chin-Hong."

Ibuprofen and ulcers: What Rep. Debbie Dingell’s emergency surgery can teach us
(The Washington Post)
- "Stress also is not widely believed by experts to have a significant effect on ulcer formation, and research hasn't presented conclusive findings. 'It's very hard to measure stress and identify that as the cause for ulcers,' said Marie Borum...About 2 to 10 percent of ulcer patients will experience a perforated ulcer, which often manifests as 'acute, severe and diffuse abdominal pain,' Borum said."

[VIRTUAL] Utilization of brentuximab vedotin desensitization protocol after a severe allergic reaction
(ASHP 2020)
- "After being diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the patient received 6 cycles of doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine regimen over a 6-month period. The patient was then determined to have refractory disease and received 4 cycles of bendamustine and brentuximab vedotin as salvage therapy...For both desensitization therapies, the patient required pre-medication administrations of acetaminophen, famotidine, diphenhydramine, methylprednisolone, and a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor antagonist. Additional acetaminophen, diphenhydramine, ibuprofen and calcium carbonate was requested by the patient for symptom control...The patient is scheduled for a 12-month follow-up computed tomography scan to detect signs of recurrent lymphoma. This case demonstrated successful utilization of brentuximab vedotin desensitization protocol."

Efficacy and Safety of Ibuprofen Plus Paracetamol in a Fixed-Dose Combination for Acute Postoperative Pain in Adults: Meta-Analysis and a Trial Sequential Analysis.
(PubMed, CNS Drugs)
- "The ibuprofen plus paracetamol FDC is conclusively an effective analgesic against placebo in acute postoperative, moderate to severe pain in adults. It is also superiorly well tolerated, including at the higher dose of 292.5-400 mg ibuprofen/975-1000 mg paracetamol; however, safety outcomes were inconclusive. Future studies need to confirm the safety of FDC and its benefits against other marketed analgesics in postoperative pain."

Cost-effectiveness of Oral Versus Intravenous Ibuprofen Therapy in Preterm Infants With Patent Ductus Arteriosus in the Neonatal Intensive Care Setting: A Cohort-based Study.
(PubMed, Clin Ther)
- "This is the first cost-effectiveness evaluation of oral versus intravenous formulations of ibuprofen among infants with PDA. The oral ibuprofen might be associated with an enhanced ductal closure at a considerably lower cost. The study results support recent trends in neonatal intensive care unit practices in favor of the oral administration of ibuprofen."

The Mediation of Central Cyclooxygenase and Lipoxygenase Pathways in Orexin-Induced Cardiovascular Effects.
(PubMed, Brain Res)
- "Interestingly, central pretreatment with a non-selective COX inhibitor, ibuprofen, or a non-selective LOX inhibitor, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, partially reversed pressor and tachycardic cardiovascular responses evoked by central administration of OX. In summary, our findings show that the central treatment with OX causes pressor and tachycardic cardiovascular responses along with an increase in posterior hypothalamic extracellular total prostaglandin concentrations. Furthermore, our results also demonstrate that central COX and LOX pathways mediate, at least in part, centrally administered OX-evoked pressor and tachycardic responses, as well."

(ASHP 2020)

Acetaminophen is a reasonable treatment option for PDA closure in preterm neonates and may have a more favorable side effect profile when compared to ibuprofen. Further research should be conducted in order to determine the impact of early initiation of treatment."

[VIRTUAL] Inpatient and Outpatient Opioid Use in Colorectal Surgery Patients
(ASHP 2020)
- "Multi-modal therapy (acetaminophen, methocarbamol, ibuprofen, naproxen, gabapentin, and others) was prescribed to 89.6% of patients at time of discharge... During hospitalization, a patient's pain is more acute in the immediate post- operative period. Patients received a multimodal approach to their pain control in order to target a variety of pain receptors; however, a large back bone was the opioid therapy they received. Limiting the number of prescribed inpatient and outpatient opioids will reduce inappropriate use, dependence, and the potential for overdose."
