Reduced graphene oxide-germanium quantum dot nanocomposite: Electronic, optical and magnetic properties.
(PubMed, Nanotechnology)
- "...The nanocomposites exhibit high electrical conductivity with a sheet resistance of up to 16 Ω sq-1...Quantum confinement effects is evidenced in the UV-Vis absorbance spectra and photoluminescence emission spectra of the nanocomposites which show marked size-dependence. The composites manifest strong absorption in the UV region, strong luminescence in the near UV region, and a moderate luminescence in the visible region."

Hedysarum L. (Fabaceae: Hedysareae) Is Not Monophyletic - Evidence from Phylogenetic Analyses Based on Five Nuclear and Five Plastid Sequences.
(PubMed)
-
PLoS One
- "In this study, phylogenetic relationships of Hedysarum were investigated based on the nuclear ITS, ETS, PGDH, SQD1, TRPT and the plastid psbA-trnH, trnC-petN, trnL-trnF, trnS-trnG, petN-psbM sequences. Hedysarum clade in both nuclear and plastid trees, and our analyses support merging Stracheya into Hedysarum. Based on our new evidence from multiple sequences, Hedysarum is not monophyletic, and its generic delimitation needs to be reconsidered."

Direct Growth of Graphene Films on 3D Grating Structural Quartz Substrates for High-performance Pressure-Sensitive Sensor.
(PubMed)
-
ACS Appl Mater Interfaces
- "Meanwhile, This pressure-sensitive sensor exhibits super reliability (≥ 5000 cycles) and ultrafast response time (≤ 4ms). Owing to these features, this pressure-sensitive sensors based on the 3D conformal graphene is adequately introduced to test wind pressure, expressing higher accuracy and lower background noise level than a market anemometer."

Probing protein-lipid interactions by FRET between membrane fluorophores.
(PubMed)
-
Methods Appl Fluoresc
- "...This approach was employed to quantify FRET from benzanthrone dye ABM to squaraine dye SQ-1 in the model protein-lipid system containing a polycationic globular protein lysozyme and negatively charged lipid vesicles composed of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylglycerol. It was found that acceptor redistribution between the lipid bilayer and protein binding sites resulted in the decrease of FRET efficiency. Quantification of this effect in terms of the proposed methodology yielded both structural and binding parameters of lysozyme-lipid complexes."

Mitochondrial Dysfunction Causes Oxidative Stress and Tapetal Apoptosis in Chemical Hybridization Reagent-Induced Male Sterility in Wheat.
(PubMed, Front Plant Sci)
- "Furthermore, chronic oxidative stress, together with the overexpression of type II metacaspase, triggered premature tapetal apoptosis, which resulted in pollen abortion. Accordingly, we propose a metabolic pathway for mitochondrial-mediated male sterility in wheat, which provides information on the molecular events underlying CHA-SQ-1-induced abortion of anthers and may serve as an additional guide to the practical application of hybrid breeding."

Efficient near infrared fluorescence detection of elastase enzyme using peptide-bound unsymmetrical squaraine dye.
(PubMed, Bioorg Med Chem Lett)
- "Efficient and fast recovery of this quenched fluorescence of SQ 1 PC (> 50% in 30s) was observed on hydrolysis of this peptide-dye conjugate by elastase enzyme. Presently designed NIR sensitive self-quenching substrate offers the potential application for the detection of diseases related to proteases by efficient and fast detection of their activities."

Arbuscular mycorrhiza facilitates the accumulation of glycyrrhizin and liquiritin in Glycyrrhiza uralensis under drought stress.
(PubMed, Mycorrhiza)
- "...Moreover, the glycyrrhizin accumulation was positively correlated with the expression of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis genes SQS1, β-AS, CYP88D6, and CYP72A154. By contrast, no significant interaction of AM inoculation with water treatment was observed for liquiritin accumulation, while we similarly observed a positive correlation between liquiritin accumulation and the expression of a liquiritin biosynthesis gene CHS. These results suggested that AM inoculation in combination with proper water management potentially could improve glycyrrhizin and liquiritin accumulation in liquorice roots and may be practiced to promote liquorice cultivation."

Alcohol Decreases Organic Dust-Stimulated Airway Epithelial TNF-Alpha Through a Nitric Oxide and Protein Kinase-Mediated Inhibition of TACE.
(PubMed)
-
Alcohol Clin Exp Res
- "These data suggest that alcohol requires a soluble cyclase-generated cAMP-PKA pathway that is dependent upon the action of NO to inhibit TACE and TNF-α release. These findings support our observations that alcohol functions through a dual NO and PKA pathway in bronchial epithelial cells."
