Cost-Effectiveness of Topical Prophylaxis Against Tympanostomy Tube Otorrhea: An Economic Decision Analysis.
(PubMed, OTO Open)
- "The most expensive strategy ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone otic ($626.83) was not cost-effective unless the rate of postoperative otorrhea was greater than 92% or if the cost of otorrhea treatment exceeded $4477.36...Prophylaxis against posttympanostomy otorrhea can be cost-effective. Physicians should consider the cost of prophylaxis at their institution as well as the patient's postoperative risk of otorrhea when making treatment decisions."

Eczema exacerbation following herpes zoster infection in an immunocompetent patient: A case report.
(PubMed, SAGE Open Med Case Rep)
- "This patient exhibited a blistering rash diagnosed as shingles with overlying cellulitis, initially treated with valacyclovir and cefalexin. Treatment encompassed intravenous vancomycin, ciprofloxacin eye drops, topical hydrocortisone, betamethasone lotion, and gabapentin, leading to substantial improvement. This case underscores the complexity of diagnosing and managing cutaneous reactions post-varicella zoster virus infection and suggests a multimodal treatment approach may yield favorable outcomes."

[VIRTUAL] PLEURAL SPILL IN EX-SMOKING: A CASE REPORT
(HEMO 2020)
- "Complementary exams (laboratory, simple chest X-ray and ECG) were performed, which evidenced a pleural effusion on the left, with the use of corticotherapy (hydrocortisone 100 mg twice daily) and antibiotic therapy (Clindamycin, Ciprofloxacino and Ceftriaxone). Diagnostic imaging methods demonstrate great relevance for the correct management of diseases related to pleura. Differential diagnosis is essential for determining pleural effusion. The correct association of different diagnostic methods will result in the improvement and / or cure of the individual's illness."

Perichondritis: inspect the lobule.
(PubMed, Int J Emerg Med)
- "The diagnosis to be otitis externa with perichondritis was established, and we recommended otic ciprofloxacin-hydrocortisone, IV vancomycin, and ciprofloxacin. In this case, the diagnosis of perichondritis was made by a classic physical examination finding: erythema and edema with sparing of the fatty lobule. This key finding helps to distinguish perichondritis from otitis externa."

Rising Costs of Otic Drops: Review of a National Database.
(PubMed, Laryngoscope)
- "Otic drop prices have been volatile, with overall price increases higher than overall inflation. Drug pricing is not transparent, making it difficult for prescribers and patients alike to be cost conscious when choosing the best therapy. We outline six factors that contribute to high US medication prices and also highlight two examples of otic drops that underwent significant price fluctuation during the studied period."

Risk for Tympanic Membrane Perforation after Quinolone Ear Drops for Acute Otitis Externa.
(PubMed, Clin Infect Dis)
- "Use of quinolone ear drops to treat AOE is associated with a previously unreported increased risk of developing TMPs. Selection of otic preparations to treat self-limited conditions with intact tympanic membranes should consider TMP risk."
