[VIRTUAL] Shank3 loss in AD is associated with cognitive symptoms and neuropathology.
(AAIC 2021)
- "The postsynaptic protein Shank3 (SH3 and multiple ankyrin repeat domains) may be an exception, because the loss of a single allele of the Shank3 gene is sufficient to cause profound cognitive symptoms in children... These results in human samples and in transgenic mice are consistent with the hypothesis that Shank3 deficiency plays a role in the apparition of cognitive impairment in AD. Further work is needed to decipher the molecular mechanisms involved."
