Medial plica increases risk for progression of K/L grade in middle-aged populations with K/L grade 0 -Data from Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI)

- "The lesion known as medial abrasion syndrome, where the medial plica rubs against the cartilage of the medial femoral condyle, has been reported to be combined with knee OA patients and is associated with medial synovitis, cartilage degeneration, and osteophyte formation in the knee joint (J Bone Joint Surg Br 2008). It is highly likely to play a significant role in the initial disease state of knee OA (Figure 1).In this study, we aimed to clarify whether medial plica is a risk factor for progression of radiographic OA."
