Performance of the Self-Controlled Case Series With Active Comparators for Drug Safety Signal Detection Using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD).
(PubMed, Pharmacoepidemiol Drug Saf)
- "Using a carefully designed reference set of drug-outcome pairs well suited to the study design, the SCCS performed moderately well for signal detection in CPRD. Whilst active comparators effectively reduced confounding by indication, they also reduced the number of correctly identified positive controls, due to a reduction in power. We showed some evidence that SCCS is able to highlight SDRs before they were present on labels."

Photodynamic Inactivation Enhances Antibiotic Efficacy Without Affecting Drug Stability: Insights into Photosensitizer-Antibiotic Combination Therapies.
(PubMed, Int J Mol Sci)
- "In this study, the tetracationic 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-N,N,N-trimethylammoniophenyl)porphyrin (TMAP4+) was evaluated in combination with ATBs: ampicillin (AMP) and rifampicin (RIF) against Staphylococcus aureus and cephalexin (CFX) against Escherichia coli. Growth curve analyses corroborated these results, showing delayed bacterial growth and decreased maximal optical densities in the combined treatments compared to single agents. Overall, these findings demonstrate that the photodynamic process can potentiate the antimicrobial effect of conventional ATBs without compromising their stability, supporting the potential of PS-ATB combination therapies as a valuable approach to improve antibacterial efficacy and mitigate ATB resistance."

Unraveling the potential of metal-organic frameworks for antibiotic remediation: From molecular interactions to real-world challenges.
(PubMed, Chemosphere)
- "Zr-based MOFs such as PCN-777 and MOF-525 exhibit exceptional adsorption capacities, 442.48 mg/g for cephalexin and up to 860 mg/g for tetracycline, surpassing conventional adsorbents like activated carbon. Key challenges, including hydrolytic instability, metal ion leaching, performance reduction in complex matrices, regeneration inefficiencies, and the limited representativeness of single-compound studies in predicting field-scale behavior, are critically evaluated. By linking mechanistic understanding with operational challenges, this work provides a targeted roadmap for developing water-stable, regenerable MOFs capable of delivering scalable and sustainable antibiotic remediation in diverse and challenging wastewater environments."

The Role of Chitosan-Based Materials in Interactions with Antibiotics: An Overview of In Vitro and In Silico Studies.
(PubMed, Int J Mol Sci)
- "Since covering all the antibiotics that can be found in the environment would be an overwhelming task, we concentrated our efforts on describing the studies related to the removal of tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, cephalexin, and azithromycin, which are perhaps the most ubiquitous ones. In addition, we also review in silico studies that have been carried out to obtain molecular-level insights into the interactions between chitosan-based adsorbents and the four mentioned antibiotics. Particular emphasis is placed on our recent computational work regarding the adsorption of tetracycline by various chitosan-based materials."

Influence of mixing time and agitation speed on partitioning and mass transfer coefficient of cephalexin in aqueous two-phase systems.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "The finding shows an enhanced mixing speed and longer mixing durations improved both partitioning and mass transfer, with mass transfer coefficients determined as 0.093 min⁻¹ and 0.0898 min⁻¹ for the respective systems at the optimum conditions; a correlation relating mixing speed to the mass transfer coefficient is also proposed. Consequently, the results emphasize that mixing conditions substantially influence ATPS mass transfer kinetics and highlight the importance of kinetic considerations alongside equilibrium properties."

Some Virulence-Associated Genes of Proteus Isolates Could Predict Antibiotic Susceptibility and Even Infection Source.
(PubMed, Int J Microbiol)
- "Maximum frequency of resistance was detected against trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole combination in P. mirabilis isolates and against cefalexin in P. vulgaris isolates...Amikacin, tobramycin, and meropenem were introduced as the most effective antibiotics against Proteus isolates. Our finding primarily introduced some VAGs as biomarkers for predicting antibiotic susceptibility and also in order to differentiate Proteus isolates. However, it has to be confirmed through complementary studies later."

The impact of day care attendance on antibiotic use among children aged 0-12 years: A population-based register study.
(PubMed, PLoS One)
- "Four most commonly prescribed antibiotics were amoxicillin, azithromycin, cefalexin, and amoxicillin with beta-lactamase inhibitor. Regardless of the number siblings, the number of cumulative antibiotic purchases remained lowest in the group of children with the longest home care period, and the results remained robust after controlling for the mother's age and education, and immigrant background. These findings contribute to a broader understanding of how early childhood care arrangements may be associated with long-term patterns of antibiotic use, with potential relevance for public health planning and antimicrobial stewardship."

Performance of the Self-Controlled Case Series With Active Comparators for Drug Safety Signal Detection Using Merative MarketScan Research Databases.
(PubMed, Pharmacoepidemiol Drug Saf)
- "MarketScan databases are potentially suitable for drug safety signal detection due to their large size and information contained. Using a carefully designed reference set of drug-outcome pairs well suited to the study design, the SCCS, while imperfect, performed comparably to optimal settings identified in previously published studies. Active comparators did not enhance overall performance but showed improved specificity by better controlling confounding by indication at the cost of reduced sensitivity."

Traceability and Characteristic Investigation of Burkholderia Gladioli Bloodstream Infection in Patients with Hematologic Malignancies
(ASH 2023)
- "Antibiotic susceptibility tests revealed that the clinical strains were susceptible to cefazoxime, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, cefalexin, cefoperazone/sulbactam, meropenem, imipenem, piperacillin/tazobactam, amikacin, tobramycin, minocycline hydrochloride, tigecycline and resistant to polymyxinB, ampicillin, cefazolin, cefuroxime, aztreonam, and cefoxitin. Foodborne B. gladioli strains in this study exhibited low toxicity and high thermal stability and caused opportunistic bloodstream infections of hematologic malignant patients in immunodeficient states, which deserves our attention. Its special biological characteristic might be attributed to whole and partial loss of toxigenic gene clusters. Clinical B gladioli strains are resistant to polymyxinB, but the standard B gladioli strain and lethal B gladioli strain are susceptible to it, indicating acquired resistance during colonization and empirical antibiotic therapy."
