Advancing reporting of significance from the analysis and comparison of glass evidence; A global collaboration
(ACS-Fall 2022)
- "The LRs calculated from comparing glass manufactured at three different plants over relatively short periods (over 2-6 weeks) result in a range of calibrated LR values from very low (LR~10-3) when the glass are manufactured at different plants or manufactured weeks-months apart in the same plant to very high (LR~103) when the glass samples either originate from the same source or were manufactured on the same day and in the same plant. Although some of the glass samples being compared may not originate from the same broken window source, they exhibit chemical similarity within these lower and upper bounds and the LRs presented here facilitate the correlation between chemical relatedness to manufacturing history, specifically the time interval between production. The overall aim of this research is to improve on the opinion statement provided to the court for the significance of finding matching glass evidence in a particular case."

Triacylglycerol and phytyl ester synthesis in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803.
(PubMed, Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A)
- "The slr2103 protein sequence is unrelated to acyltransferases from bacteria (AtfA) or plants (DGAT1, DGAT2, PDAT), and therefore establishes an independent group of bacterial acyltransferases involved in triacylglycerol and wax ester synthesis. The identification of the gene slr2103 responsible for triacylglycerol synthesis in cyanobacteria opens the possibility of using prokaryotic photosynthetic cells in biotechnological applications."

Quantitative and Qualitative Analyses of Triacylglycerol Production in the Wild-type Cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 and the Strain Expressing AtfA from Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1.
(PubMed, Plant Cell Physiol)
- "TAG accumulation level of both strains was only 0.01∼0.03 nmol mL-1 OD730-1, but the fatty acid composition was substantially different from that of the background. These results suggest trace amounts of TAG can be produced in Synechocystis cells by other enzymes than Slr2103 and major constituents of the TAG-like spot are unknown lipid species produced by Slr2103."
