[VIRTUAL] Exposure to Topical Antimicrobials Reduces Inflammatory Gene Expression in Cutaneous Lupus Lesional Skin
(ACR-ARHP 2020)
- "Inflammatory signaling can be reduced in lupus lesional skin by reducing Gram-positive bacterial load by topical antibiotic treatment. CCL19 is an interferon regulated gene that mediates ectopic lymphoid aggregates in non-lymphoid tissues. CCL2, a chemokine highly expressed in CLE, and CXCL10 are known to recruit monocytes, memory T cells and dendritic cells to sites of inflammation, resulting in Th1 oriented inflammation in CLE."

An Antibiotic-Impacted Microbiota Compromises the Development of Colonic Regulatory T Cells and Predisposes to Dysregulated Immune Responses.
(PubMed, mBio)
- "This Treg deficiency cannot be corrected by cohousing with normal mice later and is recapitulated by reconstitution of germfree mice with microbiota harvested from antibiotic-exposed donors. As a consequence of their dysbiosis, and possibly of their Treg deficiency, antibiotic-impacted offspring generate dysregulated Th1 responses to bacterial challenge infection and develop more severe symptoms of ovalbumin-induced anaphylaxis."

Disruption of Immune Homeostasis in Human Dendritic Cells via Regulation of Autophagy and Apoptosis by Porphyromonas gingivalis.
(PubMed, Front Immunol)
- "Use of allosteric panAkt inhibitor MK2206 and mTOR inhibitor rapamycin confirmed the role of Akt/mTOR signaling in autophagy inhibition by P. gingivalis in DCs. Addition of ABT-199 peptide to disrupt the interaction of antiapoptotic Bcl2 and its proapoptotic partners BAK/BAX restored apoptotic death to P. gingivalis-infected DC cells. In summary, we have identified the underlying mechanism by which P. gingivalis promotes its own survival and that of its host DCs."
