Human Endogenous Retrovirus Expression Is Upregulated in the Breast Cancer Microenvironment of HIV Infected Women: A Pilot Study.
(PubMed, Front Oncol)
- "In addition, we found immune system, extracellular matrix organization and metabolic signaling genes upregulated in HIV-positive breast cancer. In conclusion, our findings provide evidence of transcriptional and retrotranscriptional changes in breast cancer from PLWH compared to non-HIV breast cancer, including dysregulation of HERVs, suggesting an indirect effect of the virus on the breast cancer microenvironment."

Mesenchymal stem cells transplantation ameliorates glomerular injury in streptozotocin-induced diabetic nephropathy in rats via inhibiting oxidative stress
(Diabetes Res Clin Pract)
- "The glomerulosclerosis as revealed by periodic acid Schiff staining and expression of collagen I and fibronectin was significantly reduced by MSC treatment. Oxidative stress was also markedly inhibited in the MSCs group. Furthermore, the expression of TGF-β and membrane localization of GLUT1 were also down-regulated by MSCs."

The role of bone marrow derived-mesenchymal stem cells in attenuation of kidney function in rats with diabetic nephropathy
(Diabetol Metab Syndr)
- "MSC therapy significantly improved 24 h urinary albumin, serum urea and creatinine concentrations, increased angiogenic growth factor VEGF, and anti-apoptotic protein bcl2 while decreased the pro-inflammatory TNF-alpha, fibrogenic growth factor TGF beta, and pro-apoptotic protein Bax. The histopathology examination showed patchy areas of minimal necrosis and degeneration in renal tubules."

Allogeneic Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Treatment of AKI after Cardiac Surgery.
(PubMed, J Am Soc Nephrol)
- "In these patients with AKI after cardiac surgery, administration of allogeneic MSCs did not decrease the time to recovery of kidney function. Our results contrast with those in preclinical studies and provide important information regarding the potential effects of MSCs in this setting."
