Effect of preoperative vitamin B12 levels on postoperative outcomes in CABG patients.
(PubMed, Turk Gogus Kalp Damar Cerrahisi Derg)
- "Postoperative data on the need for inotropic agents (adrenaline, dopamine, dobutamine) and cardiac assist devices were also analyzed...These findings suggest that preoperative B12 levels may be a valuable predictive marker for identifying high-risk patients and could guide prophylactic strategies. Further research is needed to explore this relationship in more detail."

Inotropic therapy in outpatients with worsening or advanced heart failure: literature evidence and comparison of Italian management models
(PubMed, G Ital Cardiol (Rome))
- "In this review, we explore the role of home-administered inotropes, specifically dobutamine, milrinone, dopamine, and levosimendan, in the management of AdvHF patients through a summary of current literature and the presentation of management models adopted in selected Italian centers. Reported experiences suggest improved quality of life, reduced hospital admissions, and enhanced clinical stability in patients with AdvHF. These models may serve as practical examples for organizing care pathways in a clinical context that remains poorly defined by current guidelines."

Catecholamines and serum potassium alterations in critically ill neonates: a prospective cohort study.
(PubMed, Crit Care Sci)
- "Catecholamines significantly influence serum potassium in neonates. Norepinephrine poses the most significant risk of hyperkalemia, whereas dobutamine tends to lower potassium levels. These findings emphasize the importance of potassium monitoring during vasoactive therapy in neonatal intensive care units."

When Pregnancy Tests the Heart: Voluntary Wheel Running Attenuates HFHS-Associated Postpartum Hemodynamic Dysfunction.
(PubMed, Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol)
- "In contrast, wheel running improved intrinsic contractility and maintained Ees/Ea at rest and during dobutamine without differences in body or heart weight. These findings indicate that HFHS exposure across pregnancy and lactation is associated with postpartum hemodynamic dysfunction characterized by preserved EF with impaired filling, increased diastolic stiffness, and reduced reserve; voluntary wheel running across this window mitigates key abnormalities in systolic mechanics and ventricular-arterial coupling."

Selective Reversal of IL-1-Mediated Cytokine Storm Using Anakinra for Sepsis-Induced MODS
(SCCM 2026)
- "She was resuscitated with crystalloid and colloid fluids and inotrope administration of epinephrine and dobutamine. Her ECLS was discontinued on day 5, she was extubated on day 8 and discharged to rehab on day 20. In this case, anakinra seemed to specifically decrease IL-6 and IL-8 levels, while not affecting CXCL9, IL-2RA, IL-18, nor TNFR1 levels. This case highlights the positive function of anakinra use during systemic inflammation conditions and its effect on IL-6 and IL-8, potential chief biomarkers of IL-1 signaling activity."

Bitten and Broken: A Dual Assault by Lyme and Anaplasma Leading to Multisystem Crisis
(SCCM 2026)
- "She required escalating support with multiple vasopressors and inotropes, including norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dobutamine. Her hospital course was further complicated by worsening cardiogenic shock and multiorgan dysfunction, including ischemic hepatitis, acute renal failure requiring CRRT, and severe thrombocytopenia. She completed her course of doxycycline and was subsequently discharged to a rehabilitation center. This case highlights an atypical and severe presentation of tick-borne coinfection lacking hallmark features. The initial misdiagnosis delayed treatment, but the patient improved rapidly after doxycycline initiation—underscoring the importance of considering vector-borne illnesses in cases of unexplained shock, especially in endemic regions."

Efficacy of Levosimendan for Sepsis-Induced Myocardial Dysfunction: A Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis
(SCCM 2026)
- "Levosimendan at 0.2 mcg/kg/min reduces mortality, lactic acid levels, and heart rate while improving cardiac index, LVEF, and stroke volume index in SIMD patients compared to dobutamine. These results suggest levosimendan is a superior inotropic agent, though more large-scale trials are needed to confirm these findings."

Association of New-Onset Arrhythmias Between Milrinone and Renal Impairment
(SCCM 2026)
- "Patients were excluded if they received antiarrhythmic agents while hospitalized prior to receiving milrinone, received dobutamine within 1 hour prior to initiating milrinone, or received concurrent dobutamine and milrinone infusions. Based on the data from this study, there was no association of new-onset arrhythmias between milrinone and renal impairment."

Evaluation of Milrinone Versus Dobutamine Use in Cardiogenic Shock
(SCCM 2026)
- "Choice of initial inotrope in cardiogenic shock was significantly influenced by the degree of hypotension and ventricular arrhythmia history. Patients requiring bridging with inotropes to advanced therapies were more likely to initially receive milrinone, contributing to the longer median inotrope therapy duration and LOS seen in the milrinone group overall. Similar to prior studies, no significant differences were seen in inpatient mortality, cardiac arrest, or RRT, though further research is needed given the rate of dobutamine use in both groups during admission."

NONISCHEMIC CARDIOMYOPATHY AND CORONARY ARTERY ECTASIA ARE RARE CARDIOVASCULAR MANIFESTATIONS OF ALPHA-1-ANTITRYPSIN DEFICIENCY
(ACC 2026)
- "Decision-Making: The patient was found to have an interval reduction in left ventricular systolic function, suggestive of non-ischemic cardiomyopathy as dobutamine stress echocardiogram was negative for inducible ischemia... Nonischemic cardiomyopathy and coronary ectasia are uncommon cardiovascular presentations of AATD. Stable patients with AATD should be evaluated with CTA or MRA to adequately characterize the ectasia, reserving invasive angiography for cases with high suspicion of obstructive disease or when noninvasive imaging is inconclusive. Risk factor modification and medical management are the cornerstones of therapy for AATD patients with cardiovascular disease."

BREAKING THE MOLD: A UNIQUE CASE OF LOEFFLER ENDOCARDITIS COMPLICATED BY CARDIOGENIC SHOCK AND ANGIOINASIVE FUSARIUM FUJIKUROI INFECTION
(ACC 2026)
- "She was initiated on apixaban, prednisone, rituximab and prophylactic trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX). One month later, the patient noted necrotic ulcerations on all four extremities since starting rituximab; lesion biopsies revealed angioinvasive Fusarium fujikuroi, so she was admitted and posaconazole and amphotericin were started...Diuresis with oral torsemide failed due to oliguria, after which she developed cardiogenic shock with a cardiac index of 1.7 L/min/m2 requiring dobutamine and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). With the afterload reduction CRRT provided, she was weaned off dobutamine and CRRT and transitioned to oral furosemide before discharge... Management of LE in patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy may be complicated by opportunistic infections and medication toxicity. Cardiogenic shock can be caused by the restrictive ventricular physiology of LE."

MEDIUM- TO LONG-TERM OUTCOMES IN A PEDIATRIC COHORT OF L-AAOCA WITH INTERARTERIAL COURSE: ARE WE CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE?
(ACC 2026)
- "Coronary anatomy was delineated by CTA and functional assessment with EST and either stress nuclear perfusion imaging (sNPI) and/or dobutamine stress cardiac MRI (DSCMR) in patients ≥6-8 years... In our cohort of L-AAOCA/IA, only 1 in 4 patients present with exertional symptoms, 17% with aborted SCD. Medium to long-term outcomes are encouraging following surgical intervention with return to physical activity, possibly influencing the natural history of this high-risk population."

CLINICAL OUTCOMES OF MILRINONE VERSUS DOBUTAMINE IN ISCHEMIC CARDIOGENIC SHOCK: A 30-DAY PROPENSITY-MATCHED ANALYSIS
(ACC 2026)
- "In this large, contemporary real-world cohort of ischemic cardiogenic shock patients, milrinone use was associated with a lower risk of 30-day mortality compared with dobutamine, without an increased risk of arrhythmia. These observational findings contrast with recent randomized trial evidence, highlighting the critical need for further research to reconcile outcomes between trial populations and routine clinical practice."

USE OF DOBUTAMINE AS AN EARLY INOTROPE IN EXTRACORPOREAL CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION
(ACC 2026)
- "In this analysis of ECPR patients, early dobutamine use within 72 hours of OHCA was not associated with differences in time requiring VA-ECMO or survival. Although the difference in ECMO duration did not reach statistical significance, the trend observed in this small cohort suggests the analysis may have been underpowered to detect a true effect. Prospective, multicenter studies are warranted to better define the role of dobutamine in the ECPR population."

TEMPORAL EVOLUTION OF MYOCARDIAL ENERGETIC AND CONTRACTILE DYSFUNCTION IN DIETARY NON-ANEMIC IRON DEFICIENCY
(ACC 2026)
- "Mitochondrial respirometry, EPR spectroscopy, and echo (rest and dobutamine stress) were performed... Iron deficiency initiates myocardial injury via selective impairment of FA oxidation, followed by mitochondrial uncoupling and overt cardiac dysfunction. This is paralleled by systemic stress, as evidenced by peripheral Fe-S cluster depletion. Despite preserved cardiac Fe-S cluster content, myocardial energetic defects emerge, implicating metabolic inflexibility as the primary driver."
