Improvement of Survival By Use of New Tecniques of Manipulation after Haploidentical Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: Report of 230 Transplants in Paediatric Patients with Primary Immunodeficiencies and Oncological Diseases
(ASH 2024)
- "Median Neutrofil engraftment was 18 days, mean platelet engraftment was 23 days...In addition, no invasive bacterial, fungal and viral infections were reported, with no life-threating infections or organ damage. The continuous improvement of manipulation strategies has made excellent results possible not only in terms of GvHD control, but also in survival with an overall survival for the last transplanted patients almost 100%."

High Neutrofil Count and Thrombocytopenia Are Associated with High Mortality in COVID 19 Patients
(ISTH 2024)
- "There was 1000 subjects, consisting of 488 males and 512 females, 66,2% of whom were under 60 years old. There was 23,8% of COVID-19 patients with a platelet count below 144.000 who died compare to 14.3% of COVID-19 patients with a platelet count above 144.000 (P < 0.05). There were 40.4% of COVID-19 patient with a neutrophil count above 10.000 who died compare to 11.4% of COVID-19 patients with a neutrophil count below 10.000 (P 0.000) Conclusion(s) : Neutrophilia and a low platelet count are associated with higher mortality in COVID-19 patients"

(ATS 2023)
- "Laboratory data included haemoglobine, leucocyte, platelet, neutrofil,,C-reactive Protein (CRP), ALT, AST, ureum, creatinine, electrolyte, blood gas analysis and Brixiascore of chest x-ray.using logistic regression. Ethical issue was approved by ethical committeeUniversitas Indonesia.ResultThere were 271 subjects, 157 male and 114 femlaes, median age 49 (19-92) years old, andmedian length of stay 9 (1-66) days. Age-related macular degeneration and myeloproliferative neoplasms - A common pathway.
(PubMed, Acta Ophthalmol)
- "Vi fandt også at forekomst af druser var associeret med højere neutrofil-lymfocyt ratio, hvilket indikerer et højere niveau af kronisk inflammation i patienterne med druser sammenlignet med dem uden druser...We, therefore, propose an AMD model (Figure 18) where inflammation can initiate and accelerate the normal age-dependent accumulation of debris in the retina, which later evolve into drusen, resulting in increased local inflammation, and over time early- and intermediate AMD. This results in the increased risk of developing the late debilitating stages of AMD."

- "This study was conducted in 128 adult men, randomly assigned to receive either EAE food supplement (N = 70) or placebo (N = 58), who underwent four visits (baseline = t0, after 15 days = t1, after 2 months = t2 and after 6 months = t3) in an outpatient setting to evaluate post-void residual (PVR) and prostate volume (PV) by means of prostate ultrasound, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and neutrofile/lymphocyte ratio (N/L), nocturia before the clinical visits and International Prostate Specific Score (IPSS) registered by the physicians...Moreover, EAE food supplement did not show hepatic or renal toxicity. In conclusion, EAE food supplements can be used in subjects with BPH, to improve their quality of life and general renal function."

Can gram-negative-like biomarker values in Streptococcus pyogenes sepsis negatively influence right choice of initial antibiotic therapy?
(PubMed, Epidemiol Mikrobiol Imunol)
- "Poměr neutrofilů a lymfocytů vykazoval stejné charakteristiky jako prokalcitonin...Vysoké hodnoty prokalcitoninu imitující gramnegativní zánětlivou odpověď přispěli k ovlivnění výběru iniciální antibiotické léčby (bez znalosti původce), což mohlo vést k vyšší mortalitě u této skupiny pacientů. Proto doporučujeme přehodnocení významu prokalcitoninu v diagnostice sepse pro zlepšení přežití i kvality života pacientů."

[VIRTUAL] INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF KYNURENIC ACID ANALOGS IN RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
(EULAR 2020)
- "The potential effect of KYNA analogs on further immune mediators including alarmins (S100A12=EN-RAGE and S100A8/9=calprotectin), and on human neutrofil peptide 1-3(α-defensin) production has not been investigated... TSG-6 expression could participate in the suppression of inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α, EN-RAGE, calprotectin and α-defensin. We suppose that the elevation of the TSG-6 expression by KYNA and especially by new KYNA analogs might be one of the mechanisms that are responsible for their suppressive effect on TNF-α production as a feedback mechanism in RA. KYNA and KYNA analogs have an important role in influencing TSG-6 expression, and there is a possible benefit with potential therapeutic consequence of targeting TSG-6 expression by kynurenines in inflammatory conditions in RA."

THE THICKNESS OF THE CRURAL DIAPHRAGM IS THINNER IN HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTED GERD PATIENTS
(UEGW 2019)
- "During the endoscopic procedure, biopsies of the antrum and gastric corpus (five different sites) were taken for blinded, four-points (0-3), hystologic analysis for each of the following items: inflammation, inflammatory activity (neutrofil infiltration), metaplasia, atrophy, and H. pylori infection... In GERD patients, the thickness of the RC and the strength of inspiratory muscles were associated with gastric inflammation due to the infection with H. Pylori . The esophageal acid exposure and the typical symptoms of the two groups of GERD patients did not differ. These results brings about new evidence that may help interpret the complex relationship between H. Pylori infection and GERD."
