[VIRTUAL] Oxymorphone Related Inhalation Lung Injury - Beyond Vaping Lung Injury
(ATS-I 2020)
- "He underwent tracheostomy on Day 3 requiring therapeutic bronchoscopies with epinephrine thrice daily...Rituximab was considered but not initiated since his hospital stay was complicated by fungemia, aspiration pneumonia and VAP. He was discharged after 51 days and continues to require 60 mg prednisone... Given our patient's history of substance use and Hepatitis C he was not a lung transplant candidate and ECMO was a bridge to recovery. This case highlights the independent therapeutic value of ECMO. For patients between the age of 25-50 years with inhalation lung injury, CDC reports an average hospital stay of 6 days with 20% requiring mechanical ventilation."

[VIRTUAL] Prior authorization process improvement for pain medications in an oncology unit: Timely initiation of test claim request form.
(ASCO 2020)
- "Insurers require Prior Authorization (PA) for high-cost specialty medications including: Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Fentanyl, Nucynta, Lyrica and Lidocaine patch... The new process was effective for ensuring an efficient and effective process for patients who require high-cost controlled medications for pain management, reducing waste and providing a quality experience for the patient. As a result of the project, the new process has become policy and is now being used on other units in the institution for additional medications that requires CR and PA. Research Funding: None"
