British Society for Skin Care in Immunosuppressed IndividualsOral presentationsBI01 Persistent nonpruritic scabies in a patient on nemolizumab for the treatment of prurigo nodularis.
(PubMed, Br J Dermatol)
- P3 | "The patient did not respond to monotherapy with topical permethrin 5% (and standard hot wash measures) and required a combination of oral ivermectin and topical permethrin 5% for complete clearance. Allergy 2019; 74: 1727-37). It is important to consider the potential absence of pruritus in patients on nemolizumab when assessing new cutaneous and systemic presentations, particularly in the context of a rising prevalence of scabies in the UK."

BI36 A case study of hypereosinophilic syndrome in a patient with atopic dermatitis on dupilumab therapy and Strongyloides infection.
(PubMed, Br J Dermatol)
- "Despite topical treatments and ciclosporin, his eczema persisted, leading to the initiation of dupilumab...This is a case of hypereosinophilic syndrome with colitis secondary to dupilumab in a patient with positive Strongyloides serology. This case demonstrates the diagnostic difficulty in Strongyloides-positive patients, given that both hypereosinophilic syndrome and Strongyloides hyperinfection can present with colitis, and there is a theoretical risk of disseminated Strongyloides and hyperinfection in patients immunosuppressed with dupilumab."

Strongyloides stercoralis hyperinfection with thrombosis: A systematic review of case reports.
(PubMed, New Microbes New Infect)
- "Ivermectin was the mainstay of therapy, alone or with albendazole, although treatment regimens were inconsistently reported...Early empiric antiparasitic therapy, timely investigation for thrombotic complications, and individualized anticoagulation strategies are essential to improving outcomes. Given the reliance on case-level evidence, prospective studies and standardized reporting are urgently needed to characterize better risk factors, optimal management, and prognosis of this neglected but critical complication."

Subcutaneous ivermectin treatment in severe strongyloidiasis: is it time to recommend drug concentration measurements and parasitological stool monitoring follow-up?
(PubMed, J Travel Med)
- "Subcutaneous veterinary formulations of ivermectin (IVM) may be the only option for severe treatment, but the dosage and duration are empirical. This article, based on a clinical case, discusses ivermectin concentrations and proposes clinical and parasitological follow-up to guide parenteral therapy in severe strongyloidiasis."

Performance of novel onchocerciasis rapid diagnostic tests in a field setting in South Sudan.
(PubMed, PLoS Negl Trop Dis)
- "O. volvulus and Mansonella spp. prevalence was high among pregnant and post-partum women in Maridi. The novel RDTs demonstrated sensitivities within the range of the commercially available Ov16 SD Bioline RDT, meeting the WHO threshold for onchocerciasis mapping but not for MDA stopping decisions. No RDT met the specificity threshold of 99.8%, although some exhibited slightly higher specificity than Ov16 SD Bioline RDT. This suboptimal specificity raises concerns, underscoring the need for better diagnostic tools to support onchocerciasis elimination efforts."

WITHDRAWN Persistence of onchocerciasis in Cameroon 5 years from the 2030 roadmap goal: urgent alternatives needed
(ASTMH 2025)
- "A marked rebound in parasitological indicators was observed in hotspot communities in Massangam five years post-ATS cessation compared to baseline levels (p: 0.04), and in sentinel communities in Yabassi, the prevalence remained almost unchanged after ten additional rounds of ivermectin treatment, decreasing from 43.8% (95% CI: 37.7% – 50.1%) to 38.8% (95% CI: 33.0% – 45.0%) (p: 0.222). These findings raise concerns about the potential resistance of O. volvulus and suggest that ivermectin alone may not be enough to achieve elimination goals, calling for the introduction of targeted, coordinated and sustained ATS to reach the 2030 goals."
