Bacterial responses to antibiotics determine the pattern of manganese biomineralization.
(PubMed, J Hazard Mater)
- "Manganese biomineralization was primarily promoted through enhancing intracellular ROS accumulation to stimulate manganese oxidation induced by bactericidal antibiotic (e.g. penicillin G, PG). In contrast, BioMnOx formation was reduced by bacteriostatic antibiotic (e.g. erythromycin, ERY) due to its significant inhibition of enzymatic synthesis, while antibacterial antibiotics (e.g. ciprofloxacin, CIP) completely suppressed bacterial proliferation and manganese biomineralizing capacity due to its potent antibacterial effects. Furthermore, in multi-antibiotic coexisting systems, manganese biomineralization efficiency depended on the decisive interference of the dominant antibiotic. Our findings elucidate the long-overlooked interplay between microbial physiology and mineral evolution under antibiotic stress, provide a theoretical support for improving the continuous operation of BioMnOx-generated system under antibiotic stress, which is a timely contribution to the..."

CPC03 Unusual cases of scalp ulceration: two distinct diagnoses.
(PubMed, Br J Dermatol)
- "She was treated with injectable steroids and cyclophosphamide, leading to peripheral healing of the lesions and significant improvement...The patient was treated initially with injectable ceftriaxone for 3 weeks, followed by oral penicillin G due to the unavailability of penicillin injections...Treatment modalities differ significantly, with GP requiring immunosuppressive therapy, and actinomycosis responding to prolonged antibiotic treatment. These cases highlight the diverse differential diagnoses of scalp ulceration and the need for a multidisciplinary approach to accurately identify and manage these rare conditions."

Inhibition of GABA metabolism by β-lactam antibiotics affects encystation in Acanthamoeba.
(PubMed, Biomed Pharmacother)
- "Cefotaxime, carbenicillin, and penicillin G significantly inhibited cyst formation without inducing cytotoxicity, whereas non-β-lactam antibiotics showed no such effect. These findings suggest that the inhibitory effect is associated with the β-lactam ring structure and may involve interference with GABA-mediated signaling pathways. Collectively, our study reveals a critical role of GABA metabolism in Acanthamoeba encystation and highlights β-lactam antibiotics as potential adjunctive agents for overcoming cyst-associated drug resistance in AK treatment."

Visualizing and profiling de novo protein synthesis in Drosophila with cell-type specificity.
(PubMed, Methods Cell Biol)
- "Targeted expression of Penicillin G acylase (PGA) in a cell population of interest removes an enzyme-labile blocking group on PhAc-OPP, thus permitting OPP-dependent labeling of nascent proteins in that cell population. This method, which we call POPPi (PGA-dependent OPP incorporation), provides a versatile approach to visualize or identify proteins synthesized in cell populations of interest in vivo. Here, we provide detailed protocols for labeling newly-synthesized protein in Drosophila brain cell populations by POPPi followed by detection via immunofluorescence or by capture and protein identification."

Activity of cloxacillin against Cutibacterium acnes: MIC evaluation and utility of gradient test.
(PubMed, Infect Dis (Lond))
- "We aimed to compare MIC distributions of C.acnes to benzylpenicillin and cloxacillin. Gradient test results for cloxacillin showed high agreement with agar dilution (essential agreement 0.87), supporting its use as a practical alternative to agar dilution cloxacillin MIC determination if susceptibility testing is necessary. Our findings indicate that intravenous cloxacillin is an effective treatment of C. acnes infections, and that cloxacillin gradient testing is a convenient and reliable alternative for MIC determination for clinical laboratories."
