Ocular Syphilis in Individuals with and Without HIV: A Single-Center University Hospital Experience.
(PubMed, Pathogens)
- "All patients received intravenous penicillin G or ceftriaxone, and systemic corticosteroids were administered in half of the cases. Clinical improvement was observed in all patients. Our findings highlight that ocular syphilis in PLWH is associated with more severe inflammation and higher neurosyphilis risk, underscoring the importance of routine cerebrospinal fluid examination and neurosyphilis-based treatment strategies in this group."

A natural probioenzyme strategy as an effective alternative to antibiotics against multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in broilers: Benefits for growth, immunity, and organ health.
(PubMed, PLoS One)
- "Antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed bacterial resistance to penicillin G (100%) but complete sensitivity to colistin sulphate (100%). These findings demonstrate that dietary probioenzyme is a viable alternative to antibiotics, effectively mitigating K. pneumoniae infection while improving growth, organ health, and immune competence without contributing to antimicrobial resistance. This strategy supports sustainable poultry production and aligns with global efforts to reduce antibiotic reliance."

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns and Outcomes of Neonatal Early-Onset Sepsis over a Decade: Implications for Empirical Therapy in a Tertiary NICU.
(PubMed, J Clin Med)
- "All GBS isolates (n = 7) were susceptible to benzylpenicillin and vancomycin. Although 90% of E. coli were ampicillin-resistant, 90-95% remained susceptible to third-generation cephalosporins, piperacillin-tazobactam, and aminoglycosides...However, the widespread ampicillin resistance, particularly among E. coli strains, supports consideration of cephalosporin-aminoglycoside combinations or meropenem monotherapy when rapid beta-lactam bactericidal activity is clinically essential. Mortality was higher in E. coli EOS, though not statistically significant, and unrelated to ampicillin resistance."

Antibiotic Prophylaxis and Treatment of Neonatal Group B Streptococcus Disease in the Era of Antimicrobial Resistance.
(PubMed, Antibiotics (Basel))
- "β-lactam antibiotics, including penicillin G and ampicillin, remain the cornerstone of both GBS prophylaxis and neonatal treatment, supported by sustained susceptibility, favorable pharmacokinetics, and extensive clinical experience. However, increasing global resistance to macrolides and lincosamides has markedly reduced the reliability of clindamycin and erythromycin, which are commonly used as second-line agents in women with severe penicillin allergy...Available surveillance data demonstrate substantial geographic variability in resistance but consistently low resistance to β-lactams and vancomycin...Alternative agents such as linezolid and teicoplanin exhibit activity against GBS, but their use remains limited by sparse neonatal data and pharmacokinetic variability. Ongoing antimicrobial surveillance, susceptibility-guided therapy, and stewardship initiatives are essential to preserve effective GBS prevention and treatment strategies."

Antibiotic Exposure and Early Reproductive Outcomes of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in a Chinese Couple-Based Preconception Cohort.
(PubMed, Environ Health (Wash))
- "In couple-based analyses, sulfaclozine, roxithromycin, sulfamonomethoxine, erythromycin, and penicillin V were positively related to several early IVF reproductive outcomes, while sulfamethoxazole, penicillin G, chlorotetracycline, norfloxacin, florfenicol amine (FFA), sulfadiazine, cyadox, and sulfachloropyridazine were negatively related to early IVF outcomes. The association between parental antibiotic exposure and IVF outcomes requires further validation in a larger cohort of couples. Additionally, the extrapolation of our results to the general childbearing-aged couples requires caution as infertile couples may be more susceptible to antibiotics."

Pus-Forming Infections in an Advanced Care Hospital in Morocco: Enterobacterales Dominance With High Burden of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase Producers and Carbapenem Resistance.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "The prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in S. aureus was 14.75%; resistance to penicillin G among staphylococci was very high, whereas all staphylococcal and enterococcal isolates remained susceptible to vancomycin and linezolid...In P. aeruginosa, resistance to ceftazidime and/or carbapenems was modest (7.69%), and all isolates were susceptible to amikacin and colistin, whereas 75.0% of Acinetobacter spp...Fine-needle aspirates outperformed superficial swabs for pathogen detection. These findings support the use of deep sampling whenever feasible, regular updating of local antibiograms, and rational use of antimicrobial agents, particularly regarding third-generation cephalosporins and carbapenems, to optimize empirical therapy for pus-forming infections in this setting."

Nisin and lysozyme as antibiotic alternatives in an extender for chilled canine semen.
(PubMed, Anim Reprod Sci)
- "One ejaculate from each of fifteen animals was diluted in Tris-citrate-fructose-egg yolk (TCF-EY) extender, and each ejaculate was divided into three groups: control-Antb (0.06 g/100 mL benzylpenicillin + 0.1 g/100 mL streptomycin), Nis (50 µg/mL nisin + 1.25 µg/mL EDTA), and Lys (500 µg/mL lysozyme)...Forty percent of the fresh samples had no bacterial growth, whereas some isolates were antibiotic-resistant. These results indicate that both nisin with EDTA and lysozyme exhibit promising bacteriostatic activity in chilled canine semen without compromising sperm characteristics."

The Great Imitator Strikes Again: Neurosyphilis Mimicking Demyelinating and Vascular Disease
(AAN 2026)
- "Ophthalmology noted anterior/intermediate uveitis. He was treated with IV penicillin G for 14 days followed by benzathine penicillin. For vasculitis and myelitis, he received 3 days of IV methylprednisolone followed by oral prednisone taper... Neurosyphilis can present with a rare triad of transverse myelitis, vasculitic stroke, and uveitis. The differential included multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, infectious meningomyelitis, and systemic vasculitis, but diagnosis was confirmed with reactive CSF VDRL. This case emphasizes the importance of obtaining a thorough sexual history, recognizing CSF VDRL as the diagnostic gold standard, and initiating timely penicillin therapy, with adjunctive corticosteroids considered in cases of vasculitis or myelitis."

Meningovascular Neurosyphilis Causing Multifocal Cerebral Infarcts in a Young Adult with Newly Diagnosed HIV/AIDS
(AAN 2026)
- "Empiric treatment was initiated with intravenous penicillin G on day 5; ART (bictegravir, emtricitabine, tenofovir alafenamide) started on day 8. This case highlights meningovascular neurosyphilis as a rare but important etiology of multifocal bilateral cerebral infarcts in young adults with HIV/AIDS. Clinicians should maintain high suspicion for neurosyphilis in patients with unexplained strokes, especially with atypical imaging and HIV risk factors. Early CSF analysis, serologic testing, and prompt antimicrobial therapy are essential to limit neurological morbidity."
