A Novel Vitamin D Receptor Agonist, VS-105, Improves Bone Mineral Density without Affecting Serum Calcium in a Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Rat Model.
(PubMed, J Explor Res Pharmacol)
- "In the calvariae bone organ culture, net Ca release was significantly less in VS-105-treated groups (vs. calcitriol). VS-105 is efficacious in improving BMD in a dose range that does not affect serum Ca in OVX rats; the improvement in BMD by VS-105 is attributable to increased osteoblastic activity and reduced osteoclastic bone resorption."

Assessment of Respiratory Function in Infants and Young Children Wearing Face Masks During the COVID-19 Pandemic.
(PubMed, JAMA Netw Open)
- "After the group B walking test, compared with before the walking test, there was a significant increase in median (IQR) PR (96.0 [84.0-104.5] pulsations/min vs 105.0 [100.0-115.0] pulsations/min; P < .02) and RR (22.0 [20.0-25.0] breaths/min vs 26.0 [24.0-29.0] breaths/min; P < .05). This cohort study among infants and young children in Italy found that the use of facial masks was not associated with significant changes in Sao2 or Petco2, including among children aged 24 months and younger."

A beneficial cardiometabolic health profile associated with dietary supplement use: A cross-sectional study.
(PubMed, Int J Vitam Nutr Res)
- "Compared with the NS group, MDS users had significantly (P < 0.05) lower mean total cholesterol (198 (194-201) vs 201 (197, 206) mg/dL), MDS and LTMDS users higher mean HDL cholesterol (54.2 (53.3-55.1) and 60.0 (57.4, 62.7) mg/dL vs 52.0 (50.8-53.3) mg/dL), LTMDS users lower fasting glucose (100 (98-103) vs 105 (103-106) mg/dL), SS and MDS users lower insulin (8.4 (7.4-9.6) and 9.1 (8.3-9.9) vs 10.2 (9.4-11.1) μIU/mL), and MDS users lower CRP (% ≥ 1.5 mg/L, 50.8 (47.9-53.6) vs 57.0 (52.4-61.6) %). These findings add to the evidence that use of dietary supplements may provide cardiometabolic health benefits."

A novel internal cold circulation radiofrequency-assisted device for liver transection.
(PubMed, Int J Hyperthermia)
- "Hemorrhage during the transection (85.0 ml vs 105.0 ml, p = 0.438) and hemorrhage per square centimeter (3.28 ± 0.86 ml/cm vs 3.60 ± 1.12 ml/cm, p = 0.141) in the New-RF group were smaller than those in Habib-4X group with no significant difference. The new internal cold circulation bipolar radiofrequency was a safe and efficacious auxiliary device for liver resection with a faster speed of resection, lower carbonization rate of electrode needle, and more precise range of coagulation."

Assessment of atrial functional remodeling in patients with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia with and without drug-induced type 1 Brugada pattern: A case-control study.
(PubMed, J Clin Ultrasound)
- "The TACT assessed by PA-TDI interval is longer in patients with AVNRT with and without DI-Type 1 BrP than in age-matched and sex-matched healthy control subjects."

Detailed comparison of the da Vinci Xi and S surgical systems for transaxillary thyroidectomy.
(PubMed, Medicine (Baltimore))
- "All surgery video files were analyzed to compare the duration of each surgical step. The total operation time was significantly shorter in the Xi group than in the S group (153.0 minutes vs 105.7 minutes, P < .01)...The overall complication rate did not differ significantly (P = .464).The da Vinci Xi system made robotic thyroidectomy easier and faster without increasing the complication rate. It is a safe and valuable system for robotic thyroidectomy."

Assessment of the efficacy of using taurine supplements to improve growth and feed utilization of juvenile starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus) given diets based on soy-protein.
(PubMed, PeerJ)
- "Diets supplemented with 1.5-2.5% taurine significantly elevated the activities of pepsin (2.47-2.55 vs 2.22, U mg prot), trypsin of distal intestine(14.55-15.24 vs 11.94, U mg prot), hepatic glucokinase (126.62-129.42 vs 105.56, U mg prot) and fatty acid synthetase (125.56-136.89 vs 108.45, U mg prot)...Therefore, taurine supplementation benefits juvenile starry flounder growth, digestion, nutrients metabolism and oxidation resistance. The optimal taurine requirement for starry flounder is 1.75%, and the recommended supplementation level is at least 1.6% for maximizing growth of fish fed a low-fishmeal diet (13.6%)."

Effects of intracerebroventricular leptin and orexin-A on the baroreflex control of renal sympathetic nerve activity in conscious rats fed a normal or high-fat diet.
(PubMed, Clin Exp Pharmacol Physiol)
- "Intracerebroventricular (ICV) leptin (1 μg/min) increased RSNA in the normal diet group (0.31 ± 0.04 vs 0.23 ± 0.03 mV/s) and MAP in the high-fat diet group (115 ± 5 vs 105 ± 5 mm Hg, P < .05)...RSNA response to VEP was not changed during ICV leptin or orexin-A in the high-fat diet group. These findings indicate possible central roles for leptin and orexin-A in modulating the baroreflexes under normal or increased fat intake in conscious rats and potential therapeutic approaches for obesity associated hypertension."
