TRAUMA-ASSOCIATED CHYRESOBACTERIUM INDOLOGENES
(CHEST 2025)
- "Patient was treated with IV Ciprofloxacin... C. Indologenes is a rare nosocomial pathogen with a high mortality due to its high frequency for multidrug resistance. Early consideration, detection and treatment is crucial in trauma patients."

A CASE REPORT: PYOPNEUMOTHORAX SECONDARY TO PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA INFECTION IN A YOUNG VAPER
(CHEST 2025)
- "He was started on levofloxacin and metronidazole. His pleural fluid cultures isolated pan-sensitive Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, hence his antibiotics were converted to intravenous ciprofloxacin...Pleural tissue cultures grew Pseudomonas Aeruginosa intermediately sensitive to Piperacillin/Tazobactam and ciprofloxacin, therefore antibiotics were changed, and he completed 4 weeks of meropenem with clinical improvement... Doctors should routinely query the history of vaping in working up patients with fever and consider expanding antimicrobial coverage to cover Pseudomonas aeruginosa if patients have significant history of e-cigarette use."

Evaluation of the therapeutic effect of a fly maggot antimicrobial peptide in a Staphylococcus aureus-induced mouse mastitis model.
(PubMed, Open Vet J)
- "ICR mice were randomly allocated into four groups, with 30 mice in each group: Group I (healthy control), Group II (disease control), Group III (AMP treatment), and Group IV (ciprofloxacin treatment)...AMP administration (10 µl at a concentration of 25.36 µg/ml) resulted in alleviation of clinical symptoms, reduction in bacterial load, and decreased TNF-ɑ levels, accompanied by significant amelioration of histopathological alterations compared with the disease control group. This study demonstrated that maggot-derived AMP holds promise as a potential alternative to conventional antibiotics for the treatment of bovine mastitis, offering a viable therapeutic strategy to address antimicrobial resistance and improve clinical outcomes."

Persistent Vesiculopustular Eruption of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (VPE-IBD) on the scalp that responded to intravenous immunoglobulins and retinoids - A Challenging Case
(EADV 2025)
- "The patient received antibiotic therapy (IV Ciprofloxacin, p.os Clindamycin 300mgx2 /d for 4 weeks) and antifungal therapy (Itraconazole 200mg/d for 7 weeks) with topical and systemic corticosteroids gradually reduced from 30mg/day...Due to another relapse shortly after the first IvIG infusion, oral isotretinoin 20mg/d was added with a slow dosage reduction and topical combinations of calcipotriol/ betamethasone diproprionate 0.5% and erythromycin/benzoyl peroxide... This is a very rare case as ulcerative colitis was in remission despite the intense dermatological clinical picture, making the treatment challenging. The use of intravenous immunoglobulin with oral retinoids and concomitant topical therapy of calipotriol/corticosteroid/benzoyl peroxide proved to be an effective combination for the treatment of the patient. This combination has not been previously reported in the literature for the corresponding dermatological entity."

Seminal vesicle abscess with orchitis and emphysematous cystitis following traumatic urethral injury from accidental urinary catheter dislodgement.
(PubMed, Infect Dis Health)
- "Traumatic urinary catheter removal increases the risk of urethral injury and infection; therefore, appropriate measures to prevent catheter dislodgement are essential. Additionally, in urinary tract infections following catheter-related urethral injury, the possibility of progression to an SVA should be considered. Early imaging-based diagnosis, targeted antibiotic therapy, and drainage, when necessary, are crucial for improving patient outcomes."

Developing tailored dosing recommendations for ciprofloxacin in critically ill children using a population approach based on total and unbound concentrations.
(PubMed, Clin Microbiol Infect)
- "Standard dosing regimens of ciprofloxacin (20-30 mg/kg per day) fail to achieve adequate target attainment in non-ventilated critically ill children with a normal or elevated renal function. Further research should prospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of intensified ciprofloxacin dosing regimens."

A Case of Severe Septicemia With Chromobacterium violaceum in Bangladesh.
(PubMed, Clin Case Rep)
- "The patient was treated empirically with intravenous ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone, leading to full recovery despite resistance to ceftriaxone. This case highlights the need for careful antibiotic selection based on clinical response and sensitivity patterns. Moreover, increasing awareness among healthcare professionals, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, is vital for early detection and successful treatment of this rare, life-threatening infection."

Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Modeling of Enrofloxacin and Its Metabolite Ciprofloxacin in Pregnant Goats.
(PubMed, Vet Sci)
- "The aims of this study were (1) to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of enrofloxacin and ciprofloxacin by intravenous and intramuscular administration of 7.5 mg/kg in pregnant goats; (2) to determine the placental transfer of enrofloxacin and ciprofloxacin; (3) to conduct a PK/PD analysis to calculate the PK/PD cutoff of different dose regimens; and (4) to evaluate the tentative epidemiological cutoff values for coagulase-negative staphylococci wild-type isolates from goats. MIC values of coagulase-negative staphylococci isolates (n = 90) were obtained, and tentative epidemiological cutoffs were calculated at 0.25 and 0.5 mg/L for enrofloxacin and ciprofloxacin. According to PK/PDco values, an intravenous dose regimen of 10 mg/kg/day was considered the most appropriate, but based on the PK/PDco, culture, and AST data, an effective dosing regimen with the lowest possible dose could be selected to minimize the potential risk of fetal exposure to enrofloxacin."

Comparative study of the inhibitory effects of different antibiotic administration routes on bone healing in a rat tibial infection model.
(PubMed, Front Cell Infect Microbiol)
- "After six weeks, rats were treated with vancomycin (intravenous), cefazolin (intravenous), ciprofloxacin (oral), or ciprofloxacin combined with rifampin (oral). Intravenous administration of vancomycin demonstrated superior efficacy in controlling bone infection, reducing inflammation, and preserving bone structure compared to oral treatments. While ciprofloxacin and the ciprofloxacin-rifampin combination showed some efficacy, they were less effective than intravenous vancomycin, likely due to lower bioavailability and insufficient drug penetration in bone tissue."

A Case Report of Neisseria sicca Endocarditis in a Patient with Tissue Aortic Valve: Favorable Outcome Following Prompt Multidisciplinary Team Management.
(PubMed, Br J Hosp Med (Lond))
- "As per microbiology advice, his antibiotic treatment was adjusted to oral ciprofloxacin and intravenous ceftriaxone for 6 weeks given this organism's sensitivity. Involving acute medicine, microbiology, and cardiology teams as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) led to good clinical outcomes and patients remained alive and well on follow-ups. So far only 27 cases have been documented and we think our work would increase insights into management strategies for this condition particularly the utilization of the MDT approach."
