Anti-amnesic effects of Terminalia chebula extract on scopolamine-induced learning deficits in mice
(Neuroscience 2016)
- "The major components of TCE such as tannic acid and chebulagic acid have anti-oxidant, anti-mutagenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Mice was orally administered with TCE (200 mg/kg) or donepezil (5 mg/kg) for 14 days (days 1-14), and scopolamine (1 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally for 7 days (days 8-14), 30 min before the Morris water maze task (MWM) which was used to examine cognitive status. Supported by the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) grant by the Korean government (MSIP) (No. G15120 and CRC-15-04-KIST)."

High-resolution sub-cellular imaging by correlative NanoSIMS and electron microscopy of amiodarone internalisation by lung macrophages as evidence for drug-induced phospholipidosis.
(PubMed)
-
Chem Commun (Camb)
- "Correlative NanoSIMS and EM imaging of amiodarone-treated macrophages shows the internalisation of the drug at a sub-cellular level and reveals its accumulation within the lysosomes, providing direct evidence for amiodarone-induced phospholipidosis. Chemical fixation using tannic acid effectively seals cellular membranes aiding intracellular retention of diffusible drugs."

Gallotannins and Tannic Acid: First Chemical Syntheses and In Vitro Inhibitory Activity on Alzheimer's Amyloid β-Peptide Aggregation.
(PubMed)
- "The first total syntheses of two true gallotannins, a hexagalloylglucopyranose and a decagalloylated compound whose structure is commonly used to depict "tannic acid", are now described. These depsidic gallotannins and simpler galloylated glucose derivatives all inhibit amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) aggregation in vitro, and monogalloylated α-glucogallin and a natural β-hexagalloylglucose are shown to be the strongest inhibitors."

- "Resveratrol and caffeic acid prevented malondialdehyde accumulation and preserved glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase activities in erythrocytes. We demonstrated that resveratrol, caffeic acid, and tannic acid in stored blood could decrease the sensitivity to oxidation of erythrocytes in vitro but did not exhibit such effects on CA activity."

Effects of Small Molecule Calcium-Activated Chloride Channel Inhibitors on Structure and Function of Accessory Cholera Enterotoxin (Ace) of Vibrio cholerae.
(PubMed)
- PLoS One - "Functional studies, performed using mouse ileal loops and Ussing chamber experiments, corroborate biophysical data, all pointing to the fact that tannic acid destabilizes Ace, inhibiting its function, whereas DGA stabilizes the toxin with enhanced fluid accumulation in mouse ileal loop. The efficacy of tannic acid in mouse model suggests that the targeted modulation of Ace structure may be of therapeutic benefit for gastrointestinal disorders."
