Quest for novel organic tracers to determine children's soil and dust ingestion rates: Promises, pitfalls, and future considerations
(ACS-Fall 2025)
- "Soil samples (n = 20, as not every household had, for example, a yard on their property) contained mostly naturally occurring (i.e., endogenously produced) compounds, but anthropogenic compounds like biocides (e.g., iodocarb, imidacloprid) and flame retardants (e.g., tris(1-chloro-2-propyl)phosphate [TCPP]) also were detected...Candidate tracers (or their metabolites) were required to be present in urine or stool, and infant formula, breastmilk, and food samples were used to exclude candidates. We characterize intra- and inter-home variability in soil and dust composition, discuss the impacts of the observed variability on tracer candidates, and propose future considerations for advancing the use of organic tracers."

Exposure to carbamate fungicide iodocarb does not affect reproductive behavior or milt volumes in precocious male brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) parr.
(PubMed, Fish Physiol Biochem)
- "Taking all control and IPBC parr into consideration, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between time attended females and volume of milt and gonadosomatic index (GSI), respectively. In summary, 15 μg l IPBC did not have any significant effects on mature male parr reproductive behavior and milt volumes."
