GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS Identification of Opium and Tropane Alkaloids in Pottery from Funnel Beaker Culture Sites in South-Eastern Poland.
(PubMed, Materials (Basel))
- "Papaverine was identified in three artifacts (N1, N2, G2) using GC-MS/MS, and its presence was independently confirmed in two of these vessels (N1, N2) by LC-MS/MS. In one miniature vessel (D1), trace amounts of tropane alkaloids-scopolamine and presumptive atropine-were detected following derivatization...The analytical results indicate that psychoactive plant derivatives could have been intentionally used and stored in selected FBC vessels, supporting interpretations related to ritual or medicinal practices. The validated procedures developed in this work provide a robust framework for the detection of unstable biomolecular residues in prehistoric ceramics and can be applied to future archaeometric and materials-science research."

Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in surgery for intramedullary spinal cord lesions - workflow, setup and outcomes.
(PubMed, Acta Neurochir (Wien))
- "Live data from continuous intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, expertly interpreted in the OR, could potentially be used to make surgical and anesthesiologic adjustments with the goal of minimizing the risk of negative neurological outcomes. Significant associations were found between decreased or lost IONM signals and poorer sensorimotor function and mMC score at short- and long-term follow-up. Implementation of the IONM workflow is suggested in all intramedullary surgery."

- "Colchicine and papaverine show the best GridScocre: -38.09 and -36.09 kcal/mol, respectively. The association of in silico and in vitro techniques allowed the identification of two potential RmGST inhibitors (colchinine and papaverine) capable of interacting in the active site of the enzyme. RmGST inhibitors can be used in association with acaricides for a more effective control of R. microplus reducing parasite resistance."

Arrhythmia prevention protocol during papaverine administration for invasive coronary functional assessment.
(PubMed, Front Cardiovasc Med)
- "Ventricular arrhythmias occurred in 1.5% of patients, including four episodes of ventricular fibrillation and two of ventricular tachycardia; all resolved with prompt defibrillation and without hemodynamic compromise. These findings suggest that pre-treatment with lidocaine may enhance the safety of papaverine-induced hyperemia during invasive coronary testing."

Papaverine enhances sperm quality in asthenospermia by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation while regulating the expression of apoptosis-related genes during cryopreservation.
(PubMed, Cryobiology)
- "However, in the Freeze + Papaverine group, all these factors, except acrosomal integrity, showed significant improvement compared to the Freeze group. This study suggests that treating asthenozoospermic sperm with papaverine before freezing improves post-thaw sperm quality by enhancing motility, viability, plasma membrane integrity, and MMP, while reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis-potentially contributing to improved outcomes in ART."

Primary Mediastinal Large B-Cell Lymphoma Mimicking Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Case Report
(HFSA 2025)
- "After administration of vasodilators (nitroglycerin and papaverine), positive dynamics were observed: improved antegrade flow in the LCA (TIMI II), with significant dilation of proximal LAD and Cx segments. Cardiac arrest occurred within 48h of ICU admission, with unsuccessful resuscitation.Post-Mortem Findings: Autopsy confirmed extensive pericardial and myocardial infiltration by a malignant tumour, compressing major vascular structures. Bronchorelaxant effects of 6-Nitrodopamine in human airway smooth muscle
(ERS 2025)
- "The effect of 6-ND was measured in isolated bronchial rings pre-contracted with carbachol (CCh) at 70% of maximal contractility and in tissue stimulated by electrical field stimulation (EFS; 3 – 25 Hz) to mimic vagal firing. Data from hASM pre-contracted by CCh were reported as a percentage of the maximal bronchorelaxant effect (Emax) induced by papaverine 100 µM...Conclusions These preliminary findings suggest that 6-ND effectively reduces hASM contractility elicited by parasympathetic activation, highlighting its potential as a bronchorelaxant agent for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders. Further studies with larger sample size are needed to enhance statistical accuracy."

Impact of Vasospasm on the Effects of N-butyl Cyanoacrylate Embolization in Swine Arteries.
(PubMed, Interv Radiol (Higashimatsuyama))
- "Arteries in the vasoactive group were constricted by constant venous infusion of vasopressin and an arterial injection of noradrenaline just before embolization and then dilated by arterial injection of papaverine and lidocaine immediately after embolization...The median volume of N-butyl cyanoacrylate used during embolization was significantly lower in the vasoactive group (0.32 mL) than in the control group (0.78 mL) (p = 0.0037). Vasospasm during N-butyl cyanoacrylate embolization increased the recanalization rate of the embolized arteries and reduced the embolization effect in swine."

Investigation of the influence of magnetic fields on the separation of selected substances in reversed-phase column chromatography.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "For this purpose, the drugs were categorized into three series based on polarity: tramadol (logP 1.34) and heroin (logP 1.58) as the polar series; cocaine (logP 2.3) and noscapine (logP 2.58) as the moderate polarity series; and papaverine (logP 3.00) and ketamine (logP 3.21) as the non-polar series. Other effects of the magnetic field on separation were changes in peak widths and resolutions. The results indicated that drugs with moderate polarity were most influenced by the induced magnetic field."
