Successful 5-FU Ointment Application in a Patient With SLE
(AAO 2024)
- "While initially responsive to Maxitrol ointment, the dermal irregularities, particularly noticeable on the right upper lid, persisted...Due to the chronic nature of the rash, a conservative approach was chosen. The patient underwent a 2-week treatment with 5-fluorouracil ointment, resulting in complete resolution."

Disparities in Treatment Patterns for Pediatric Patients with Chalazion by Age, Gender, and Race/Ethnicity
(ARVO 2024)
- "Medications in the search strategy were Fluorometholone, Tobradex, Maxitrol, Blephamide, and Erythromycin. We identify racial/ethnic disparities in the prevalence and treatment of chalazia in pediatric patients 2-18 y/o. Compared to Caucasian children, Hispanic children had the highest odds of having chalazia and lowest odds of obtaining only surgery, while Asian children had the highest odds of receiving only prescription drug management without any surgery. Further investigation is warranted to understand the root causes of the observed disparities in the prevalence and treatment of chalazion."

Limbal Autograft, Symblepharon Removal And Cleaning After A Unilateral Chemical Burning.
(ESCRS 2023)
- "We altered the therapy from Maxitrol 0/2 to Autologous serum 0/4, Dexamytrex oint 0/1 ands tb Vibramycin 100mg...The cornea is clear (patch amniotic membrane above) and visual acuity is counting fingers at 60cm Conclusion/Take home message: It is very important to sustain limbal stem cells for the transparency of the cornea and a normal eye function after a chemical burn as soon as possible. Thus, a later penetrating keratoplasty procedure may be averted."

Case report: orbital compartment syndrome in the setting of periorbital necrotizing fasciitis
(SOE 2023)
- "Intravenous vancomycin and ceftazidime, acetazolamide, brimonidine, and Maxitrol ointment were given to prevent infection and IOP elevation. The next morning, erythema surrounded the left eye with increasing swelling and pain. Ice packs and intravenous solumedrol were provided to relieve inflammation...Patient was admitted to the intensive care unit for management of sepsis and transferred for surgical debridement upon stabilization. This rare clinical presentation of orbital compartment syndrome secondary to S. pyogenes necrotizing fasciitis, including disease course and therapeutic management, represents an important consideration for clinicians when developing differential diagnoses. _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_"

(ESCRS-WM 2023)
- "Because the patient had G6PD deficiency, he was started on Maxitrol eyedrops four times per day (fluoroquinolones are contraindicated)...Conclusion / Take home message: Aggressive infectious keratitis uncommonly presents on postoperative day one and other entities should be kept in mind and addressed initially. However, keeping in mind an infectious etiology is essential to prevent progression with further complications."

(ESCRS-WM 2023)
- "She was commenced on topical Maxitrol (dexamethasone, polymyxin B sulphate, neomycin sulphate) and Acular (Ketorolac) QDS post-operatively. This case highlights the importance of awareness of the major side effect of topical NSAIDs. (PubMed, J West Afr Coll Surg)
- "All patients were administered Maxitrol® ointment postoperatively...Elevated intraocular pressure with the use of topical dexamethasone ointment after squint surgery was common in this study and majority of the patients had significant elevation in intraocular pressure. Close monitoring of the intraocular pressure of black patients, especially children, on topical steroid medication after squint surgery is strongly recommended."

Acute exudative serous macular detachment with intraretinal oedema following uncomplicated phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
(PubMed, BMJ Case Rep)
- "The findings were presumed to be caused by cefuroxime toxicity despite a standard intraoperative dose of 1 mg/0.1 mL injected into the anterior chamber. This patient was treated with topical prednisolone 1%, ketorolac 0.5% and chloramphenicol 0.5% in place of the standard Maxitrol (dexamethasone 0.1% with neomycin) prescribed as a postoperative regimen in our unit. (PubMed, Equine Vet J)
- "Dexamethasone and prednisolone eye drops can induce detectable drug levels in serum and urine samples of horses after a 14-day treatment plan. This can lead to a positive doping result. All samples tested negative (below LOD of the analytical method) for dexamethasone one day and for prednisolone one week after treatment cessation."

The forward movement of glass, as in this case, is likely caused by anatomical phenomenon.
