CAR T TREATMENT ACCESS AND OUTCOMES IN PATIENTS WITH LARGE B-CELL LYMPHOMA ACCORDING TO ETHNICITY AND SOCIOECONOMIC DEPRIVATION IN THE UK
(EHA 2024)
- "7%, respectively), nor in the use of tocilizumab and steroids, ICU admission or non-relapse mortality (NRM). Our data suggest similar clinical benefit of CD19 CAR T across a diverse LBCL population, but highlight therelevance of competing risks for drop-out and death in socioeconomically deprived patients. Our resultssupport equity of access to CAR T within the UK national delivery system; however, potential regional referralbarriers according to socioeconomic factors should be further investigated. Figure 1: Map."

RELEVELLING-CKD1: Social determinants of health associated with the screening of individuals for Chronic Kidney Disease between 2015-2021.
(UKKW 2024)
- "Social determinants of health have a profound impact on the screening of individuals at risk of CKD. Such factors are therefore needed to be addressed when formulating new clinical pathways to improve CKD detection, to ensure all social groups are provided with accessible and equal care to prevent the development of disproportionate levels of advanced CKD in any given population."

RELEVELLING-CKD1: Evaluation of the impact of social determinants of health on coding of individuals diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease between 2015- 2021 in North West London
(UKKW 2024)
- "We report the initial findings of population differences on the determinants of health associated with the formal coding of CKD within EHR's. An improved appreciation of how social determinants of health impact the coding of CKD, will aid our ability to widen access to CKD care and reduce the number of individuals with advanced CKD, particularly from groups traditionally associated with health inequalities."

Disparities in Clinical Trial Enrolment and Survival Outcomes by Socio-economic Class in Multiple Myeloma
(IMW 2023)
- "There were significantly less patients enrolled into clinical trials (both EPT and LPT) from deprived areas compared to the expected social demographic of MM patients in England (7% (trials) vs 14% (England) for IMD 5, p= < 0.001). Patients enrolled into clinical trials were from less socially deprived areas than expected from the distribution of MM in England with referrals favouring higher socio-economic class. As lower socio-economic class impacts overall survival independently of racial group, it is vital that clinical trials enrol from a diverse but balanced socio-economic population. Enrolment should be monitored according to socioeconomic deprivation to ensure there is adequate representation of the geographical population served."

Social Deprivation and the association with survival following Fenestrated Endovascular Aneurysm Repair: Social deprivation in complex endovascular aortic aneurysm repair.
(PubMed, Ann Vasc Surg)
- "Social deprivation was associated with increased mortality, length of stay and all-cause complication rates in patients undergoing FEVAR for complex abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). These results may help direct pre-optimisation measures to improve outcomes in higher risk sub-groups."

Proximity to the Promoter and Terminator Regions Regulates the Transcription Enhancement Potential of an Intron.
(PubMed, Front Mol Biosci)
- "Furthermore, we show that both the promoter and terminator-proximal introns facilitate assembly or stabilization of the preinitiation complex (PIC) on the promoter. On the basis of these findings, we propose that proximity to both the promoter and the terminator regions affects the transcription regulatory potential of an intron, and the terminator-proximal intron enhances transcription by affecting both the assembly of preinitiation complex and promoter directionality."

Socioeconomic deprivation and long-term outcomes after elective surgery: analysis of prospective data from two observational studies.
(PubMed, Br J Anaesth)
- "Socioeconomic deprivation is associated with worse long-term outcomes after elective surgery. This risk factor should be considered when planning perioperative care for patients from deprived areas."

New Insights on Macrophage Function in Pulmonary Hypertension Gained from Comparative Transcriptomics and Metabolomics
(ATS 2019)
- "Secreted factors from adventitial fibroblasts cultured from calves and humans with severe PH can elucidate a phenotype in BMDM that recapitulates many of the signaling pathways observed in interstitial macrophages in vivo in hypoxic PH. This in vitro system may provide a way to interrogate the signals involved in macrophage polarization in PH."
