Drug-induced noninfectious myocarditis: a disproportionality analysis of the FAERS database.
(PubMed, Expert Opin Drug Saf)
- "Disproportionality analysis revealed that the top 5 drugs by ROR were phendimetrazine tartrate (ROR 104.64), trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole (ROR 67.65), aldesleukin (ROR 52.67), mesalazine (ROR 49.73), and balsalazide disodium (ROR 45.26)...Through comprehensive analysis of the FAERS database, our study identified drugs with a strong signal for myocarditis that are not currently indicated on their labels. The findings suggest that the potential risk of myocarditis associated with these medications is significant and warrants close monitoring in clinical practice."

Abused drug-induced intracranial self-stimulation is correlated with the alteration of dopamine transporter availability in the medial prefrontal cortex and nucleus accumbens of mice.
(PubMed, Biomed Pharmacother)
- "Here, we used the ICSS model to evaluate the abuse potential of 18 abused drugs: 3-Fluoroethamphetamine (3-FEA); methylphenidate; cocaine; dextroamphetamine; alpha-Pyrrolidinobutyrophenone (α-PBT); 4'-Fluoro-4-methylaminorex (4-FPO); methamphetamine; larocaine; phentermine; paramethoxymethamphetamine (PMMA); phendimetrazine; N-(1-adamantyl)-1-pentyl-1H-indazole-3-carboxamide (AKB-48); Naphthalen-1-yl-(4-pentyloxynaphthalen-1-yl)methanone (CB-13); 4-Ethylnaphthalen-1-yl-(1-pentylindol-3-yl)methanone (JWH-210); Naphthalen-1-yl-(1-pentylindol-3-yl)methanone (JWH-018); N-(ortho-methoxybenzyl)-4-ethylamphetamine (4-EA-NBOMe); N-[(2-Methoxyphenyl)methyl]-N-methyl-1-(4-methylphenyl)propan-2-amine (4-MMA-NBOMe); and 1-[1-(4-methoxyphenyl)cyclohexyl]piperidine (4-MeO-PCP). A positive correlation exists between the ICSS threshold and DAT availability in the mPFC and NAc provoked by abused drugs. The relative potential of drug-induced reward-seeking behavior may be related to..."

Target and suspect screening of (new) psychoactive substances by LC-HRMS in South Korea.
(PubMed, Sci Total Environ)
- "A total of 14 substances were detected in the target analysis, including three NPS (N-methyl-2-AI, 25E-NBOMe, and 25D-NBOMe) and 11 traditional psychoactive substances and their metabolites (zolpidem phenyl-4-COOH, ephedrine, ritalinic acid, tramadol, phenmetrazine, phendimetrazine, phentermine, methamphetamine, codeine, morphine, and ketamine). This is the most comprehensive study to investigate NPS using target and suspect analysis methods at the national level. This study raises a need for continuous monitoring of NPS in South Korea."

Evaluation of the reinforcing strength of phendimetrazine using a progressive-ratio schedule of reinforcement in rhesus monkeys.
(PubMed, J Pharmacol Exp Ther)
- "SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: One strategy for reducing cocaine use is to identify a treatment that substitutes for cocaine, but has lower abuse potential. In a rhesus monkey model of drug abuse, this study compared the reinforcing strength of cocaine and phendimetrazine, a drug that has been shown to decrease cocaine use in some studies."

TRENDS OF SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY AND POST-OPERATIVE WEIGHT LOSS PHARMACOTHERAPY OVER 10 YEARS: A LARGE DATABASE STUDY
(SSAT 2020)
- "We studied the individuals who were prescribed at least one weight loss medication [orlistat, liraglutide (Saxenda), lorcaserin, phentermine-topiramate, bupropion-naltrexone, phentermine, diethylpropion, benzphetamine, and phendimetrazine] at least 7 days after the procedure...Despite the growing trend, sleeve gastrectomy and post-operative anti-obesity pharmacotherapy are underutilized in the US with < 1% of obese adults undergoing SG out of which < 5% being prescribed anti-obesity pharmacotherapy. Further large-scale studies are required to explore interventions to increase the utilization of these therapies."

Evaluation of pharmaceutical abuse and illicit drug use in South Korea by wastewater-based epidemiology.
(PubMed, J Hazard Mater)
- "The anti-obesity drugs phendimetrazine and phentermine had the second and fifth highest mean estimated consumption rates, 182.9 and 113.1 mg d (1000 people), respectively...Methamphetamine was the only illicit drug detected in wastewater, and the estimated consumption rates (14.9-28.6 mg d (1000 people)) were similar to consumption rates found in previous Korean studies (not detected to 45.8 mg d (1000 people)). The mean estimated meperidine and cis-tramadol (opioid) consumption rates were 120 and 27.5 mg d (1000 people), respectively, and were 8.2 and 1.7 times higher, respectively, than the consumption rates found in 2013. Methylphenidate was detected in the influent and effluent samples at mean concentrations of 2.7 and 2.6 ng L, respectively, but the methylphenidate consumption rate could not be estimated because of the low excretion rate for humans (<1%)."

Effect of JumpstartMD, a Commercial Low-Calorie Low-Carbohydrate Physician-Supervised Weight Loss Program, on 22,407 Adults.
(PubMed, J Obes)
- "Phentermine and phendimetrazine had a minor effect in women only at 1 (6.1% greater weight loss than untreated), 2 (4.1%), and 3 mo (1.2%), but treated patients showed longer enrollment than nontreated during the first 3 (females: +0.4 ± 0.01; males: +0.3 ± 0.04 mo), 6 (females: +1.1 ± 0.04; males: +1.0 ± 0.1 mo), and 12 mo (females: +2.7 ± 0.1; males: +2.4 ± 0.2 mo). JumpstartMD produced generally greater weight loss than published reports for other real-food and prepackaged-meal commercial programs and somewhat greater or comparable losses to meal replacement diets. A one-on-one medically supervised program that emphasized real low-carbohydrate foods produced effective weight loss, particularly in those attending ≥75% of their weekly appointments."

Angiographic features of drug-induced bilateral angle closure and transient myopia with Ciliochoroidal effusion.
(PubMed, BMC Ophthalmol)
- "The pathogenesis of acute drug-induced angle closure and transient myopia with ciliochoroidal effusion may be idiosyncratic reaction of uveal tissue to systemic drugs. Accumulation of extravascular fluid in the ciliochoroidal layer had a major role in the pathogenesis. ICGA could be a useful method to examine the pathophysiology of this condition by imaging of the choroidal layer."

Influence of phendimetrazine maintenance on the reinforcing, subjective, performance, and physiological effects of intranasal cocaine.
(PubMed, Psychopharmacology (Berl))
- "These results indicate that although phendimetrazine can safely be combined with cocaine, it does not attenuate the abuse-related effects of cocaine. It is unlikely, then, that phendimetrazine will be an effective standalone treatment for cocaine use disorder."
