A Case of Pediatric Myasthenia Revealed by Marked Eyelid Ptosis After Using Cyclopentolate Eye Drops.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "Early detection is paramount to prevent complications such as amblyopia and to initiate timely interventions, as demonstrated by the subsequent implementation of an eye patch to preserve visual function in the affected eye of the patient. This report contributes to the growing literature on the variable presentations of PMG and underlines the necessity for vigilance and a comprehensive approach in pediatric ophthalmologic evaluations to ensure that significant underlying conditions are not overlooked."

Myopia prevalence among Norwegian schoolchildren between 2015 and 2024 was persistently low
(ARVO 2025)
- "Cycloplegic (n=643: 1–2 drops Cyclopentolate 1%) and non-cycloplegic autorefraction (n=1945) (Huvitz HRK-8000A Auto-REF Keratometer) and ocular biometry (Zeiss IOLMaster 700) were obtained...Forecasts have predicted a global increase in myopia prevalence by 2050. This appear not to be the case in Norway where the prevalence of myopia among schoolchildren remains low despite Norway being a highly developed country with a highly developed education systems, and the school-children having the highest screen time in Europe with reported increased screen time during and after COVID-19."

Quantifying pupillary dilation-induced alterations in intraocular pressure, angle, and anterior segment parameters in pseudoexfoliation syndrome using Scheimpflug imaging.
(PubMed, Oman J Ophthalmol)
- "All three dilating drops are effective in dilating PEX patients. Phenylephrine is the most effective and ideal for both clinics and surgeries. Cyclopentolate is the least effective dilator in PEX patients compared to healthy controls. Tropicamide 1% provides a good balance between pupil dilation and minimal IOP elevation, making it safer for PEX patients."

Choroidal thickness under pilocarpine versus cyclopentolate.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "In the left eyes, SFCT changed by 5.8 ± 22.2 μm (examiner 1), 5.5 ± 36.5 μm (examiner 2), and 3.9 ± 29.5 μm (examiner 3), respectively, and the midperipheral choroidal thickness changed by -6.9 ± 47.9 μm (examiner 1), -3.5 ± 28.7 μm (examiner 2), and 16.0 ± 28.2 μm (examiner3), respectively, without significant differences between baseline and study end (all P > 0.05). Application of cyclopentolate 1% and of pilocarpine 1% did not result in a statistically significant change in choroidal thickness in young healthy adults."

Influence of lens thickness on the accommodative range in healthy eyes.
(PubMed, J Optom)
- "The crystalline lens shape does not affect the accommodative range of the eye. This may be due to the smaller deformation required to bring a thicker lens to the same level of accommodation as a thinner lens. The amount of force on the zonular fibres may therefore be similar, in all lenses, regardless of the lens shape."

In-Office Suprachoroidal Viscopexy for Acute Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment.
(PubMed, JAMA Ophthalmol)
- "One patient developed a localized choroidal effusion unrelated to the SCVEXY site following laser retinopexy that resolved in 1 week associated with topical prednisolone, 1%, 4 times daily and cyclopentolate, 1%, twice daily. In this case series, the outcomes of these 6 cases suggest that SCVEXY may offer durable retinal reattachment in RRD. However, randomized clinical trial data, larger sample sizes, and longer-term follow-up are necessary to assess the risk-benefit profile of SCVEXY compared with the standard of care."

A comparison of cycloplegic effect of cyclopentolate 0.5% versus 1.0% eye drops with five different refraction measurement modalities in young adults.
(PubMed, Graefes Arch Clin Exp Ophthalmol)
- "What is known Cycloplegic refraction is a key test in the evaluation of any patient with active accommodation. The most frequently used clinical tests to determine the exact refraction are retinoscopy, subjective refraction, and objective refraction using autorefractometry. What is new No significant differences in the refraction between cycloplegia using 0.5% and 1.0% cyclopentolate eye drops were found. In noncycloplegia, hand-held autorefractometers tend to measure higher myopia. The evaluation of cycloplegic refraction showed good comparability between retinoscopy and subjective refraction as well as three different autorefractometers."

Impact of proxymetacaine on the dynamics of cyclopentolate in White 6- to 7-year-olds.
(PubMed, Ophthalmic Physiol Opt)
- "Accurate autorefraction values can be obtained 20-min post-instillation of 1.0% cyclopentolate in white children aged 6-7 years, potentially reducing clinical testing times. Proxymetacaine pre-instillation allows for reliable measurements as early as 10-min post-instillation of cyclopentolate. Further research is needed to validate these findings in non-White populations and to determine the safe discharge time post-proxymetacaine instillation."
