Topical analgesia during needle-related procedures in children: a clinical practice guideline.
(PubMed, Arch Dis Child)
- "There is, however, uncertainty about the type of local anaesthetic (ie, eutectic mixture of topical analgesia (EMLA) or tetracaine-containing creams (eg, Rapydan) that should be used. Therefore, a clinical practice guideline (CPG) was developed to establish a comprehensive, evidence-based overview and provide recommendations for clinical practice.A comprehensive multidisciplinary panel was assembled, comprising 16 professionals and patient representatives in the Netherlands. We suggest the use of tetracaine-containing creams only when rapid cannulation/puncture (ie, within 30-60 min) is required (weak recommendation, very low-quality evidence). In this CPG, we provide recommendations regarding the choice of local anaesthetic for needle-induced pain during minor procedures in children. With these recommendations, we aim to reduce procedural pain and thereby contribute to improving care for children."

Diatom-Inspired Structural Adaptation According to Mode Shapes: A Study on 3D Structures and Software Tools.
(PubMed, Biomimetics (Basel))
- "The created software tools, encompassing various components, were successfully tested on the example structures demonstrating the versatility and practicality of implementing biomimetic strategies in engineering designs. Thus, the present investigation does not only highlight the noteworthiness of the structural adaptation method inspired by diatoms in maximizing eigenfrequencies, but also originate software tools permitting different users to easily apply the method to distinct structures that have to be optimized, e.g., lightweight structures in the mobility or aerospace industry that are susceptible toward vibrations."

Polymodal Mechanism for TWIK-Related K+ Channel Inhibition by Local Anesthetic.
(PubMed, Anesth Analg)
- "We propose a mechanism of TREK-1 inhibition comprised of (1) primarily indirect PLD2-dependent inhibition of lipid catalysis and (2) limited direct inhibition for select local anesthetics through partial open pore block. The inhibition through PLD2 explains how the C terminus can regulate the channel despite being devoid of structure and putative binding sites for local anesthetics."

Pain management for children needing laceration repair.
(PubMed, Can Fam Physician)
- "In instances where lidocaine-adrenaline-tetracaine is not sufficient, additional injected lidocaine or bupivacaine can be used. Buffering lidocaine with bicarbonate, warming the lidocaine ampule, and injecting the compound slowly at a perpendicular angle to the skin will reduce pain associated with the injection."
