Investigation of interactions between LDPE containers and ingredients of oil-based ophtalmic formulations.
(PubMed, Polim Med)
- "The study confirmed the necessity of comprehensive compatibility testing between ophthalmic formulations and their packaging materials. A thorough understanding of these interactions is essential to ensure product stability, safety, and quality during storage and use."

Analysis of Antibiotic Consumption Trends and Pathogens' Epidemiological Profile Within a Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital from Romania.
(PubMed, Antibiotics (Basel))
- "For Reserve antibiotics, only slight annual fluctuations were observed, but there was an important reduction in colistin consumption. The most used were cephalosporins (cefazolin, cefuroxime and ceftriaxone), carbapenems (meropenem and ertapenem), vancomycin and linezolid... The analysis was carried out using tools recommended by the World Health Organisation (Access Watch Reserve antibiotics classification (AWaRe); Bacterial Priority Pathogen List (BBPL); Defined Daily Dose (DDD)), Average Annual Percent Change (AAPC) calculation and ESKAPE classification (bacteria group: Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp.). Relatively stable trends in bacterial isolates and resistant strains over five years (2020-2024) are consistent with effective antimicrobial stewardship practices."

FROM RASH TO RENAL RUIN: A CASE REPORT ON RAPIDLY PROGRESSIVE GLOMERULONEPHRITIS SECONDARY TO IMMUNOGLOBULIN A VASCULITIS IN AN ELDERLY FEMALE
(ISN-WCN 2026)
- "She later developed hypogastric pain and dysuria, for which she was treated with cefuroxime 500 mg tablet twice daily for two days for urinary tract infection (UTI)...Ceftriaxone was discontinued, renal replacement therapy was initiated, and pulse methylprednisolone therapy followed by oral prednisone was given...While not a substitute for renal biopsy, skin biopsy may be a valuable tool in selected vasculitis cases especially in resource-limited settings. Early intervention is critical to prevent irreversible renal damage and to improve long-term outcomes. This abstract was also submitted in the 45th Annual Meeting of the Korean Society of Nephrology."

Predicting oral cephalosporin susceptibility in Escherichia coli blood isolates using parenteral cephalosporin susceptibility testing.
(PubMed, J Antimicrob Chemother)
- "Prediction of oral second-generation cephalosporins may warrant cefazolin MIC ≤2 mg/L, despite limitations regarding false resistance and susceptibility discordant. Ceftriaxone/cefotaxime demonstrates a more reliable surrogate for predicting oral third-generation cephalosporins susceptibility. Future investigations are necessary to clinically corroborate these findings."

Empirical antibiotic use, resistance patterns, and their impact on clinical outcomes in a Yemeni tertiary hospital.
(PubMed, New Microbes New Infect)
- "The most commonly prescribed antibiotics were Ceftriaxone, Vancomycin, Levofloxacin, Meropenem, Imipenem/Cilastatin, and Metronidazole. Significant resistance (>50%) was observed against Moxifloxacin, Clindamycin, and all tested beta-lactam agents except Cefuroxime (42%)...These findings underscore the need for effective interventions to optimize antibiotic use and mitigate the growing threat of resistance in Yemen. Strategies such as enhanced diagnostic capabilities, improved stewardship programs, and rational prescribing practices are essential to improve patient outcomes and preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics."

Analysis of the efficacy of fosfomycin trometamol in preventing biofilm bacterial infection in double-J stents among diabetic patients and the factors associated with infection.
(PubMed, Int Urol Nephrol)
- "When administered with equivalent dosing frequency (three doses total), FMT was associated with a significantly lower detection rate of biofilm-forming bacteria in double-J stent specimens compared with LFX among diabetic patients. These findings support the preferential use of FMT over LFX for targeted prophylaxis in high-risk diabetic populations and underscore the importance of integrating antimicrobial stewardship-particularly agent selection aligned with local resistance patterns-with proactive management of modifiable risk factors to optimize infection prevention and clinical outcomes."

Multi-drug-resistant organisms are the main pathogens of surgical-site infection after colorectal surgery: a retrospective study.
(PubMed, Infect Prev Pract)
- "coli isolates showed high levels of resistance to cefazolin and cefuroxime but low resistance to imipenem, piperacillin and tazobactam. MDROs were the most common pathogens of SSIs after colorectal surgery. Prior antibiotic use, blood transfusion and pre-operative ICU admission are key independent risk factors for SSIs and MDRO infections."

Re-examining cephalosporin activity against methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus among clinical isolates from southern Taiwan.
(PubMed, JAC Antimicrob Resist)
- "Non-susceptibility rates ranged from 4.9% to 6.2% for cefazolin, cefuroxime, ceftriaxone, and cefepime. Although elevated oxacillin MICs were associated with higher MICs for several cephalosporins, this relationship was less predictive for ceftaroline. These findings highlight microbiological variability in MSSA cephalosporin susceptibility and may inform situations where direct MIC testing provides additional clarity."

OmpK35/36 absence does not confer carbapenem-resistance alone nor ceftazidime-avibactam resistance with one bla KPC-2.
(PubMed, Front Cell Infect Microbiol)
- "As to ΔompK36, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of piperacillin, cefoxitin, cefazolin, cefuroxime, and imipenem increased to 4, 4, 4, 8, and 4 times respectively compared with those against NTUH-K2044; the MICs of piperacillin, cefoxitin, cefazolin, cefuroxime, imipenem, and meropenem increased to 8, 32, 32, 16, 8, and 8 times in ΔompK35/36 respectively. The loss of OmpK35/36 confers increased resistance to certain β-lactams, with OmpK36 being dominant. Moreover, OmpK35/36 loss is a contributor but not a determinant in the formation of carbapenem-resistance under the absence of bla KPC-2, as well as in the formation of CZA-resistance with one bla KPC-2."

Use of a Scattered Light Integrating Collector for Point of Care Testing to Detect Bacteria in Fluid Samples from Prosthetic Joint Infections of the Hip
(AAOS 2026)
- "Six antibiotics typically used in PJIs were selected for testing: vancomycin, gentamicin, flucloxacillin, rifampicin, cefuroxime, and cotrimoxazole. We demonstrate that in organisms typical for PJI, SLIC detects infection rapidly, shows a high PPV for the presence of antimicrobial resistance, and has strong concordance with BMD in defining AST, at 60 and 120 minutes. This timescale compares favourably to the current laboratory standard (culture and colorimetry), which typically returns results in 48h or longer. SLIC also obviates the need for a priori knowledge pertaining to the likely organism, as is often required by rapid molecular methods."

Intracameral Cefuroxime Use in Cataract Surgery After Penicillin Allergy Reclassification.
(PubMed, JAMA Ophthalmol)
- "Patient receipt of intracameral antibiotics (1.0 mg/0.1 mL of cefuroxime or 0.5 mg/0.1 mL of moxifloxacin), topical antibiotics (eg, erythromycin or moxifloxacin), or no prophylaxis. Evidence-based antibiotic selection policies for patients with a penicillin allergy label may enhance appropriate use of intracameral cefuroxime in cataract surgery. The rapid increase in cefuroxime use after the policy intervention date suggests surgeons may benefit from education and pharmacy support."
