[VIRTUAL] Augmentation of Cardiac Micrornas Enhanced Cardiac Mesenchymal Cell Differentiation Into Cardiomyocyte Like Cells
(AHA 2021)
- "The CMCs were transiently transfected with cardiac miRNAs cocktail (miR-1, miR-133, miR-208 and miR-499) and cultured for 48h... Our results demonstrate that enrichment of cardiac miRNAs in CMCs increase their differentiation into cardiomyocyte lineage, which could improve their therapeutic efficacy. Further in vivo experiments would reveal functional benefits from these improved CMCs for clinical use."

Bioengineering Methods in MicroRNA-Mediated Direct Reprogramming of Fibroblasts Into Cardiomyocytes.
(PubMed, Front Cardiovasc Med)
- "Among available DR methods, non-viral transfection with microRNAs (miRcombo: miR-1, miR-133, miR-208, and miR-499) appears promising for future clinical translation...Epigenetic regulation of gene expression programs, critical to cell lineage commitment, can also be promoted by the administration of specific anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic soluble factors, helping in suppressing fibroblast signature. The aim of this mini-review is to introduce the readers to a relatively unknown field of cardiac research integrating bioengineering tools as relevant for the progress of miRNA-mediated cardiac DR."

Evaluation of Oxidative Stress, Apoptosis, and Expression of MicroRNA-208a and MicroRNA-1 in Cardiovascular Patients.
(PubMed, Rep Biochem Mol Biol)
- "The results showed increases in oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptotic factors, and in the expression of miR-208a in a variety of cardiovascular patients (ACS, MI, arrhythmia, and HF). It is suggested that future studies determine the relationships that miR-1, miR-208, and oxidative stress indices have with inflammation and apoptosis."

Diagnostic accuracy of MicroRNA 208b level with respect to different types of atrial fibrillation.
(PubMed, Indian Heart J)
- "There was a statistically significant change of miR-208 b levels in paroxysmal (p = 0.044) and persistent (p = 0.040) AFib patients, but not for embolic CVA patients. miR-208 b could serve as a new serum marker for paroxysmal AFib."

[VIRTUAL] Ginsenoside Rb1 and Metformin improves erythropoiesis in models of Diamond Blackfan Anemia by targeting Nemo-like Kinase
(ISEH 2021)
- "Metformin induces miR-26a while ginsenoside Rb1 upregulates miR-208. Both compounds significantly improve erythropoiesis in DBA models (p=0.004 and 0.008). Our results suggest that Metformin and ginseng improve erythropoiesis in DBA models and are well tolerated and widely used, offering a promising treatment for DBA patients."

The active component of Ginseng, Ginsenoside Rb1, improves erythropoiesis in models of Diamond Blackfan Anemia by targeting Nemo-like Kinase.
(PubMed, J Biol Chem)
- "We also compare ginsenoside Rb1-mediated upregulation of miR-208 with metformin-mediated upregulation of miR-26. We conclude that targeting NLK expression through miRNA binding of the unique 3'-UTR is a viable alternative to the challenges of developing small molecule inhibitors to target the highly conserved kinase domain of this specific kinase."

(PubMed, Cardiovasc Drugs Ther)

Ambient air PM exposure induces heart injury and cardiac hypertrophy in rats through regulation of miR-208a/b, α/β-MHC, and GATA4.
(PubMed, Environ Toxicol Pharmacol)
- "In this study, we investigated the miR-208/GATA4/myosin heavy chain (MHC) regulation mechanisms on cardiac injury in rats after PM exposure via an animal inhalation device...The ratios of β-MHC/α-MHC expression induced by PM were remarkably raised in comparison to their controls. It suggested that the up-regulation of miR-208b/β-MHC and GATA4 and the conversion from α-MHC to β-MHC may be the important causes of cardiac hypertrophy in rats incurred by PM."

(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "And we found two miRNAs including miR156a and miR7208, might originate from NATs, NAT0112 and NAT0086. The results suggest that S. miltiorrhiza NATs might interact with STs, produce miRNAs, and be regulated by miRNAs. They potentially play significant regulatory roles in the biosynthesis of bioactive compounds."

(PubMed, J Forensic Leg Med)

In addition, this study showed that the characteristics of target microRNAs, such as tissue-specificity, should be considered and the sampling site for microRNAs should be presented in forensic applications."

Carvedilol Alters Circulating MiR-1 and MiR-214 in Heart Failure.
(PubMed, Pharmgenomics Pers Med)
- "Here we proposed that the expression of hypertrophic-specific miRNAs (miR-1, miR-133, miR-208, and miR-214) might be linked to beneficial effects of carvedilol. MiR-1 was significantly downregulated in the untreated group compared with healthy individuals (P=0.019 and 0.14-fold). In conclusion, it might be postulated that one of the mechanisms by which carvedilol may exert its cardioprotective effects can be through increasing miR-1 and miR-214 expressions which may also serve as a potential therapeutic target in patients with systolic HF in future."

[VIRTUAL] Early overexpression of miR-499 in non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes predicts long-term risk of major adverse cardiac events
(ESC 2020)
- "Aim: To evaluate the prognostic value of five circulating miRs (miR-1, miR-21, miR-133a, miR-208, miR-499) levels for predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI) or cardiovascular rehospitalization (reh.) in patients with NSTE-ACS... Elevated miR-499 levels independently of high sensitivity troponin T levels in early phase of NSTE-ACS are related to increased rate of MACE in 4-year follow-up."

Disease severity-related alterations of cardiac microRNAs in experimental pulmonary hypertension.
(PubMed, J Cell Mol Med)
- "We hypothesized that heart-relevant microRNAs, that is myomiRs (miR-1, miR-133a, miR-208, miR-499) and miR-214, can have a role in the right ventricle in the development of PAH...The myomiRs negatively correlated with Fulton index as a measure of RV hypertrophy in MCT group (P < 0.05), whereas miR-214 showed a positive correlation (P < 0.05). We conclude that the expression of determined microRNAs mirrored the disease severity and targeting their pathways might represent potential future therapeutic approach in PAH."

Furthermore, the increase in circulating miR-320a and the decrease in its expression in PBMCs were significantly associated with LVAR and correlated with the expression of miR-320a in human failing myocardium from ischaemic origin. In conclusion, we determined the time course expression of new circulating miRNAs in patients with STEMI treated with PPCI and we showed that miR-320a was positively associated with LVAR."

Disparate miRNA expression in serum and plasma of patients with acute myocardial infarction: a systematic and paired comparative analysis.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "Although NSTEMI modified the expression of miR-1 and miR-208 in both serum and plasma, plasma displayed a higher variance than serum (Levene's test p < 0.01)...Interestingly, miR-21 showed an opposite pattern of expression, being increased in serum (2: 5.7, p = 0.0221) and decreased in plasma (2: 0.5, p = 0.0107). Plasma and serum exhibit different patterns of circulating miRNA expression in NSTEMI and suggest that results from studies with different starting material could not be comparable."
