Antibiotic susceptibility of pathogens isolated in respiratory tract samples of recently hospitalized patients.
(PubMed, Microbiol Spectr)
- "In a sub-cohort, we assessed the bacteria's susceptibility to cefditoren...By analyzing specimens from recently admitted patients with CA-LRTI, we aim to provide physicians with the relevant microbiologic data of the more severe CA-LRTI cases, i.e., those that resulted in hospital admission. Such microbiological data would provide primary care and emergency room physicians with additional insights as to the causative agents of severe CA-LRTI."

A case series study on the safety of cefditoren pivoxil use during the first trimester of pregnancy in Japan.
(PubMed, Congenit Anom (Kyoto))
- "Among 262 live births, the rates of preterm birth, low birth weight, and major congenital malformations were 4.6%, 5.7%, and 1.2%, respectively. Our results suggest that exposure to cefditoren pivoxil during the first trimester of pregnancy does not significantly increase the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes and infant outcomes."

Affinity of cefditoren for penicillin-binding proteins in bacteria and its relationship with antibiotic sensitivity.
(PubMed, Arch Microbiol)
- "The Kd of cefditoren toward PBP1A was 0.005 ± 0.004 µM, which was lower than those of other cephalosporins (cefcapene, cefixime and cefdinir)...Additionally, the biotinylated ampicillin (BIO-AMP) method was employed to evaluate the affinity of cefditoren toward PBPs of Haemophilus influenzae, and the results demonstrated that cefditoren and PBP3A/B had the lowest IC50 values (0.060 ± 0.002 µM)...Cefditoren has a high affinity toward the PBP1As of S. pneumoniae and PBP1A and PBP3A/B of H. influenzae, which may contribute to the effective antibacterial effects of cefditoren against clinical strains and its low propensity for inducing resistance. The data presented in this article help elucidate the mechanism by which cefditoren, an oral third-generation cephalosporin, binds to PBPs and provide theoretical support for the wider use of cefditoren as an antibiotic therapy."

(PubMed, Rev Esp Quimioter)

Analysis of antimicrobial drug usage in psychiatric specialized hospitals during the pandemic in China.
(PubMed, Expert Rev Anti Infect Ther)
- "The most dominant drug in DDDs was cefditoren, a third-generation cephalosporin. During the pandemic years, our hospital not only met the requirements for antimicrobial drug usage, microbiological examination, AUD, and cumulative DDDs when compared to Jiangsu Province and China but also demonstrated a consistent year-by-year decrease in drug usage and DDDs. This underscores our hospital's effective progress in maintaining rational antimicrobial drug use."

A comparative performance evaluation of cephalosporin's drugs for fluoride recognition.
(PubMed, Anal Sci)
- "In this manuscript, readily available cephalosporin's drugs cefuroxime axetil (L1) cefpdoxime proxetil (L2), and cefditoren pivoxil (L3) possess dihydrothiazine ring as signaling unit, and -NH groups as the binding site were used for the sensing of fluoride (F) ions. The presence of F was monitored in various spiked water and Colgate toothpaste samples. Overall, cephalosporin's drug demonstrates a promising potential for the detection of F ions in the semi-aqueous phase."

We propose the widely used cephalosporin CDN and the repurposed drug NAC as a new antibiofilm therapy against S. pneumoniae biofilms, including those formed by antibiotic-resistant clinical isolates."

Effect of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines and SARS-CoV-2 on antimicrobial resistance and the emergence of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes with reduced susceptibility in Spain, 2004-20: a national surveillance study.
(PubMed, Lancet Microbe)
- "The increase in non-PCV13 serotypes associated with antibiotic resistance is concerning, especially the increase of penicillin resistance linked to serotypes 11A and 24F. The future use of PCVs with an increasingly broad spectrum (such as PCV20, which includes serotype 11A) could reduce the impact of antibiotic resistance for non-PCV13 serotypes. The use of antibiotics to prevent co-infections in patients with COVID-19 might have affected the increased proportion of pneumococcal-resistant strains. Cefotaxime as a parenteral option, and cefditoren as an oral choice, were the antibiotics with the highest activity against non-PCV20 serotypes."

IMPACT OF PNEUMOCOCCAL CONJUGATE VACCINES AND SARS-COV-2 ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE IN SPAIN DURING THE PERIOD 2004-2020
(ISPPD 2022)
- "Methods We selected 3017 clinical isolates to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration to penicillin, amoxicillin, cefotaxime, erythromycin, levofloxacin, and oral cephalosporins including cefditoren, cefixime, and cefpodoxime. Conclusions The proportion of resistant isolates to cefditoren and cefotaxime was scarce despite the increased rates of serotypes not covered by the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. The rise of non-PCV13 serotypes associated with antibiotic resistance is worrisome, especially the increase of penicillin resistance linked to serotypes 11A and 24F."

Probability of target attainment of oral antimicrobials for Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae based on Monte Carlo simulations.
(PubMed, Diagn Microbiol Infect Dis)
- "The oral antimicrobial agents evaluated included cephalexin, cefaclor, cefditoren, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, faropenem, and levofloxacin. For K. pneumoniae, the percentages of isolates for which a PTA >90% was achieved were comparatively higher (cephalexin, 73%; amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, 83%; levofloxacin, 96%). Our results suggest clinicians should check if pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic indices are achieved in individual patients before transitioning to oral antimicrobial therapy."
