Computational fluid dynamics model predictions of inhaled corticosteroid deposition in patients with severe asthma.
(PubMed, Thorax)
- "In severe asthma patients with thicker airway walls, narrower airway lumens and elevated biomarkers of type-2 inflammation, a smaller ratio of ICSFP reached the peripheral airways. ICSEFP did not fully mitigate this. Patient-specific airway morphology may impact regional ICS deposition and contribute to persistent inflammation."

HAVING A BALL: HEMOPTYSIS AS A PRESENTATION OF ALLERGIC BRONCHOPULMONARY ASPERGILLOSIS (ABPA) WITH AN ASPERGILLOMA
(CHEST 2024)
- "Prior to this, she endorsed a one month history of dry cough and dyspnea on exertion but reported abruptly stopping her Qvar inhaler after running out...Respiratory symptoms improved with an inhaled corticosteroid, treatment of bacterial infections, Cresemba for Aspergillus, IVIG for immunodeficiency, and bronchopulmonary clearance with hypertonic saline and albuterol... This case is significant as it demonstrates a complex diagnostic process leading to the diagnosis of a rare Pulmonary Aspergillus Overlap Syndrome; AGPA with an Aspergilloma."

The rise of Soybean in international commodity markets: A quantile investigation.
(PubMed, Heliyon)
- "Our study leverages the connectedness or risk of spillover based on a Quantile Vector Autoregression (QVAR) model, allowing us to track connectedness over time through the examination of extreme quantiles...We observed a diminution in network complexity, manifested as a decline in network connectedness, in correlation with extreme quantiles. Policymakers can use this information to draft proactive measures, ensuring stability and sustainability in both domestic and international markets."

The impact of climate policy uncertainty on China's green energy and non-ferrous metals market co-movement: Evidence from spillover perspectives.
(PubMed, J Environ Manage)
- "This paper adopts the quantile vector autoregression (QVAR) to investigate the spillover effects between China's green energy and non-ferrous metals markets as well as their dynamic pattern under normal and extreme conditions...However, in upturns, the non-ferrous metals markets would easily transit spillover effects to green energy ones. It is further indicated that China's climate policy uncertainty exacerbates the spillover effect, and the exacerbated effect of high uncertainty on the market relationship when the spillover effect is at high level is the most significant."

Characterizing Inhaled Corticosteroid Deposition in Patients With Severe Asthma Based on Eosinophilic Inflammation and Airway Morphology
(ATS 2024)
- "CT-derived patient-specific airway models and internal airflow distribution were coupled to simulated inhalers to quantify total, central, and peripheral airway deposition of fine-particle ICS (ICSFP) (fluticasone-propionate HFA) and extrafine-particle ICS (ICSEFP) (beclomethasone-dipropionate HFA) using FRI1 (FLUIDDA Inc... In severe asthma patients with thicker airway walls, narrower airway lumens, and elevated eosinophils, we observed higher central and lower peripheral airway deposition of fine-particle ICS. Extrafine-particle ICS did not fully mitigate this. Our observations suggest that patient-specific airway morphology may impact ICS deposition and contribute to sub-optimal treatment response."

Extreme return connectedness between renewable energy tokens and renewable energy stock markets: evidence from a quantile-based analysis.
(PubMed, Environ Sci Pollut Res Int)
- "In the study, return connectedness between assets is investigated with the QVAR model...The return connectedness between these assets is affected by extreme events such as COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the collapse of the cryptocurrency market. Since the net return spillover relationships between assets are time-varying and under different market conditions, investors and portfolio managers should constantly review the net return spillovers between assets and adjust their positions accordingly."

Scrutinizing interlinkages between digitalization, economic complexity, green technologies, green energy consumption and CO emission by quantile spillovers in Vietnam.
(PubMed, Environ Sci Pollut Res Int)
- "We use quantile vector autoregression (QVAR) to identify the connection between six variables related to digitalization (proxied by a number of Internet users and mobile cellular subscriptions), green technology development, green energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions, and economic complexity index from 1996 to 2019 in Vietnam...In the short term, there was volatility, especially from 2009 to 2013, due to unprecedented events like destructive changes in political, economic, and financial issues in the globe. Our findings are critical for economists and policymakers in promoting a country's digitalization, green technology performance, and green energy on the path toward sustainable development."

An application of QVAR dynamic connectedness between geopolitical risk and renewable energy volatility during the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine conflicts.
(PubMed, J Environ Manage)
- "Dynamic net pairwise directional connectedness over a quantile suggests that uncertain events like the COVID-19 epidemic or the Russia-Ukraine conflict influence the dynamic interlinkages between geopolitical risks and renewable energy volatility and change their roles in the designed system. These findings are critical since they help authorities develop effective policies to lessen the vulnerabilities of these indicators and minimize how widely the renewable and non-renewable energy market is exposed to risk or uncertainty."

Quantile connectedness in agri-commodity markets: What has changed over past six decades?
(PubMed, Heliyon)
- "Therefore, we have investigated fourteen agri commodities (namely Coffee, Cocoa, Soyabean, Wheat, Sugar, Orange, Chicken, Beef, Maize, Tea, Coconut Oil, Groundnut Oil, Palm Oil & Rice) from January 1, 1960 to June 1, 2022 (covering 62 years on a monthly basis), deploying Quantile VAR or QVAR as suggested by [1](extended [2,3] calibration)...Further, we found decreasing complexity (network connectedness reduction) with increased quantiles. Since these findings are over such an extended period, policy decisions can be made based on them."

Patients Commonly Use the PARTICS Rescue Inhaled Corticosteroid Supplementation Strategy Post-Trial and Find It Helpful for Asthma Control
(AAAAI 2023)
- "Thirty-four percent (37/108) reported using an ICS brand other than the trial-provided rescue QVAR®, and cited insurance coverage, using their usual care ICS instead for PARTICS, or provider issues (65%, 24/37) as common reasons for switching from QVAR®...PARTICS was commonly used many months post-trial exit despite minimal investigator instruction for its continuation and was perceived as helpful for asthma, suggesting that patients will likely adopt this strategy if implemented at a healthcare system level."

Abnormal 129Xe Ventilation MRI and Inhaled Corticosteroid Deposition in Severe Asthma
(ATS 2022)
- "Abnormal ventilation was quantified using the 129Xe MRI ventilation-defect-percent (VDP).2 CT-derived subject-specific internal airflow distribution and airway models were coupled to simulated inhalers to quantify total, central and peripheral lung deposition of fluticasone propionate HFA (Flovent) and beclomethasone dipropionate HFA (Qvar) using computational fluid dynamics, with prescribed inhalation maneuver [2s inhalation, 5s breath-hold, 2s exhalation, tidal volume=2L]... It is unknown why some asthmatics respond sub-optimally to ICS and require more aggressive parenteral or oral treatment strategies to maintain asthma control. In this small, proof-of-concept study, severe asthmatics with greater ventilation abnormalities observed by MRI (i.e., higher MRIVDP) had higher peripheral and lower central ICS deposition, irrespective of particle size.1J.W.DeBacker et al.Radiology.257(3):854-62.2M.Kirbyetal.AcadRadiol.2012;19(2):141-152. 3R.Eddyetal.ERJ.2018;51(6):1800324"

An Add-on Reliever-Triggered Inhaled Corticosteroid Strategy Reduces Severe Asthma Exacerbations in a Real-World Study of African American/Black and Hispanic/Latinx Patients with Asthma
(ATS 2022)
- " Self-identified AA/B and H/L adults (age 18-75 years), with physician-diagnosed asthma on daily ICS with either Asthma Control Test (ACT) score <20 or 1+ severe asthma exacerbations in the year prior to enrollment, were randomized to receive a separate beclomethasone dipropionate 80 mcg inhaler (QVAR®) and instruction in PARTICS in addition to usual care (PARTICS+UC) or to continue UC... A simple-to-implement PARTICS strategy, added to UC, can produce clinically important reductions in severe exacerbations in a broad clinical and phenotypic spectrum of AA/B and H/L patients with moderate-severe persistent asthma. Minimal additional ICS therapy is required to achieve this reduction."

Efficacy and safety of inhaled extrafine beclomethasone dipropionate in adults with asthma: a randomized, parallel-group, dose-ranging study (BEAM).
(PubMed, J Asthma)
- P2 | "This manuscript describes a Phase II, dose-ranging, randomized, double-blind, placebo- and active-controlled, parallel-group study conducted to identify the appropriate dose of beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) to be used in a single-inhaler extrafine formulation triple combination of BDP, formoterol fumarate and glycopyrronium. Patients aged 18-75 years with poorly-controlled asthma, receiving low/medium-dose inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), and who had forced expiratory volume in the 1st second (FEV) 50-85% predicted, were randomized to inhale BDP 50, 200 or 400 µg twice daily (BID; total daily doses of 100, 400 and 800 µg), placebo, or the active comparator QVAR® 160 µg BID, all via pressurized metered-dose inhalers for 8 weeks...Secondary efficacy endpoint results supported the primary endpoint in identifying BDP 200 µg BID as the appropriate dose. Adverse events were experienced by 23.5, 25.0 and 30.6% patients with BDP 50, 200 and 400 µg BID..."
