Network degeneration in Parkinson's disease: multimodal imaging of nigro-striato-cortical dysfunction. (PubMed, Brain) - "In conclusion, our results support the hypothesis that degeneration of nigrostriatal fibres functionally impairs distinct striatocortical connections, disturbing the efficient interplay between motor processing areas and impairing motor control in patients with Parkinson's disease. The present study is the first to reveal trimodal evidence for network-dependent degeneration in Parkinson's disease by outlining the impact of functional nigrostriatal pathway impairment on striatocortical functional connectivity networks and cortical metabolism."

Effects of Val158Met catechol-O-methyltransferase polymorphism on structural striatocortical connectomes in children and adolescents: a neuroimaging PheWAS (Neuroscience 2016) - "This is in line with previous findings that Val158Met is associated with processing of sensory emotion and pain and with the brain development in these areas. This work yields new insight into the mechanisms of how the COMT gene influences the brain in children and adolescents, and especially illustrates that Val158Met plays an important role in determining the biological factors that underlie structural striatocortical connectomes."

(PubMed, J Neurosurg) - "RESULTS Data from 15 patients (4 with null cell adenomas, 1 clinically silent gonadotroph, 1 totally silent somatotroph, 5 with a corticotroph, 3 with somatotrophs, and 1 somatocorticotroph) were analyzed in this preliminary analysis...CONCLUSIONS Pituitary adenomas and their margins can be intraoperatively visualized with the preoperative injection of OTL38, a folate analog conjugated to NIR dye...Intraoperative SBR at the appropriate endoscope-to-sella distance can predict adenoma FRα expression status in real time. This work suggests that for adenomas with high FRα expression, it may be possible to identify margins and to predict postoperative MRI findings."

Benthic flattened cells of the phylogenetically related marine dinoflagellates Protoceratium reticulatum and Ceratocorys mariaovidiorum (Gonyaulacales): a new type of cyst? (PubMed, J Phycol) - "The kinetics of flattened cell formation showed that in both species this cell type increased exponentially until the onset of the culture stationary phase and then decreased. The results of this study are discussed in the context of the planktonic-benthic coupling in dinoflagellate life cycles, including those newly appreciated to be well adapted to the benthic environment."

Ceratocorys mariaovidiorum sp. nov. (Gonyaulacales), a new dinoflagellate species previously reported as Protoceratium reticulatum. (PubMed, J Phycol) - "Ceratocorys mariaovidiorum may have small spines on the second antapical plate. A phylogenetic study based on ITS/5.8SrDNA supports the morphological classification of C. mariaovidiorum as a new species of Ceratocorys and in a different clade from P. reticulatum."
