Integrin α6-targeted photodynamic therapy potentiates PD-1 blockade in MSS colorectal cancer.
(PubMed, J Nanobiotechnology)
- "In vivo fluorescence imaging demonstrated enhanced tumor accumulation and prolonged retention of Ce6-RWYD compared with the talaporfin sodium (NPe6)...Combination with anti-PD-1 further enhanced antitumor efficacy, accompanied by increased intratumoral CD8⁺ T-cell infiltration and reduced Gr-1⁺ myeloid cells. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that Ce6-RWYD-mediated PDT sensitizes MSS colorectal cancer to PD-1 blockade."

Outcomes of a Dedicated Weight Management Clinic for Pre- and Post-Transplant Patients
(ATC 2026)
- "English-speaking patients who agreed to participate are enrolled in a prospective cohort study.* Over 22 months, 151/194 pre-/post-transplant/donation patients seen in the POWER Clinic consented to enrollment: 76 potential transplant candidates (48-kidney [KT], 5-liver [LiTx], 9-heart [HT],11-lung [LuTx], 1 simultaneous heart kidney [sHK], 1 simultaneous liver kidney, 1 simultaneous liver lung [sLiLu]); 12 potential kidney donors; and 1 potential liver donor... While longer follow-up is needed, the POWER Clinic is a potential model for transplant programs to increase transplant and donor eligibility through comprehensive weight management and increase access to transplantation."

Photodynamic therapy using talaporfin sodium for grade 2/3 meningiomas: a preliminary study of safety, feasibility, and clinical outcomes.
(PubMed, J Neurooncol)
- "PDT combined with resection is a safe adjunctive strategy for grade 2/3 meningiomas. Our preliminary data suggest that its efficacy is limited in post-radiation recurrences, but it may delay disease progression when applied before RT. PDT should hence be considered as a therapeutic option for grade 2/3 meningiomas."

Talaporfin Sodium as a Clinically Translatable Radiosensitizer in Radiodynamic Therapy.
(PubMed, Biomolecules)
- "Furthermore, an exploratory RNA-seq analysis of xenografts revealed transcriptional signatures of stress and immune activation, suggesting that talaporfin-mediated RDT enhances oxidative and immunogenic responses within the tumor microenvironment. These findings highlight the potential of talaporfin sodium as a clinically translatable radiosensitizer for RDT, offering a promising strategy for the treatment of deep-seated cancers such as pancreatic carcinoma."

Prognostic Factors and Talaporfin Sodium Concentration in Photodynamic Therapy for Recurrent Grade 4 Glioma
(SNO 2025)

RNA-seq findings imply that low TS concentrations may suppress immune and stress response-related genes, potentially diminishing PDT sensitivity."

Antitumor effects of a novel glucose-conjugated bacteriochlorin for photodynamic therapy.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "Talaporfin sodium (TS), widely used in Japan, has shown limited efficacy in advanced tumors, highlighting the need for novel PSs...PDT with Glc-TFPB significantly suppressed tumor growth in xenografted mice, with greater efficacy at 24 h than at 2 h after administration. These findings indicate that Glc-TFPB is a promising next-generation PS with improved tumor selectivity, deeper tissue penetration, and superior photodynamic efficacy, supporting its potential for clinical translation."

TALAPORFIN SODIUM PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY AS A SALVAGE TREATMENT FOR LOCALLY RECURRENT ESOPHAGEAL SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA: EFFICACY AND SAFETY EVALUATION
(UEGW 2025)

Despite some adverse events, its minimal invasiveness and reduced phototoxicity enhance its applicability, particularly in elderly or high-risk patients. The effectiveness of multiple PDT sessions supports its role as a flexible treatment strategy."

Talaporfin-Mediated Photodynamic Therapy Enhances Antitumor Immunity via the ROS/HIF-1α/PD-L1 Pathway in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
(ERS 2025)
- "Notably, the upregulation of PD-L1 and HIF-1α induced by PDT was reversed by N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an ROS inhibitor, and the knockdown of the HIF1A gene also reversed PDT-induced PD- L1 expression. Talaporfin-mediated PDT exhibits potent anti- tumor effects in NSCLC, potentially through activation of the ROS/HIF-1α/PD-L1 signaling pathway. The combination of PDT with PD-L1 blockade represents a promising strategy for enhancing the efficacy of PDT by modulating the tumor immune microenvironment."

Photodynamic therapy using talaporfin sodium and semiconductor laser induces dose and time dependent cytocidal effect for human glioma derived stem cells.

To our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate NPe6-PDT in patient-derived GSCs and provides a foundation for future translational research."
