RPE dysfunction in Gpx4 KO mice with features of dry AMD is reversed by oral D-DHA: support for a phase I/II clinical trial

- P1/2 | "We previously reported that administration of deuterated docosahexaenoic acid (D-DHA) prior to KO protects the retina against development of AMD-like pathology (ARVO 2025)...Conclusions D-DHA administered after retinal insult in Gpx4ΔRPE mice halts photoreceptor/RPE degeneration and restores RPE function. These results support a newly initiated clinical trial aimed at preserving vision in AMD patients with extrafoveal geographic atrophy (Clinicaltrials.gov NCT07029945)."
