Diagnostic accuracy of stereomicroscopy assessment of invasion depth in ex vivo specimens of early gastric cancer.
(PubMed, World J Gastroenterol)
- "Stereomicroscopy is an effective diagnostic tool for determining the EGC invasion depth, particularly in non-ulcerated lesions. These findings could inform clinical practice and ESD treatment strategy optimization for EGC."

Severe obesity associates with maladaptive glomerular haemodynamics clustered with insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction.
(PubMed, Clin Kidney J)
- "Across tertiles, mGFR did not differ, but ERPF declined (756 ± 113 vs 505 ± 130 mL/min, P = .001) and of filtration fraction increased (16 ± 3% vs 26 ± 5%, P = .001) from the lowest to the highest tertile...Endothelial function was reduced in the highest vs lowest tertile (3.44 ± 1.49 vs 6.21 ± 1.76%, P = .014), while responses to nitroglycerin did not differ...A maladaptive phenotype characterized by elevated filtration fraction relative to renal plasma flow clustered with insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction, whereas mGFR alone failed to capture these relationships. Comprehensive haemodynamic profiling may help to refine risk stratification in obesity."

Fluidized Catalytic Oxidation of Ultralow Concentration Methane: A Pilot-Scale Study.
(PubMed, ACS Omega)
- "In the stability test, methane conversion decreased from 97.4 to 90% in the initial 22 h. It was found that ∼35.6 wt % of the catalysts was blown out of the reactor during the reaction due to the low separation efficiency of the used cyclone, causing the conversion rate to decrease. After the reaction, the active component MnO2 in the natural ore was partially converted to Mn2O3 with less surface oxygen vacancies, which also contributed to the decreased activity since the methane catalytic activity was much lower on Mn2O3 than that on MnO2 (T 90 = 795 vs 505 °C)."

Fifteen cohort studies and eight studies using routine health record data were identified to include pregnancies exposed to LTG, with eleven cohort studies and one routine health record data study identified for LEV...The MCA risk was significantly higher for exposure to carbamazepine (CBZ) in comparison to LTG from cohort studies (n=4018 vs. 4550, RR 1.37, 95% CI 1.06 to 1.77, p=0.02), but not from routine health record studies (n=1755 vs. 1906, RR 1.31, 95% CI 0.91 to 1.88, p=0.14)...Exposure to LTG had a lower MCA risk in comparison to topiramate (TPM) in cohort study data (n=4275 vs 505, RR 0.59, 95% CI 0.36 to 0.96, p=0.03), but data was limited for routine health record studies...There was no significant difference between the MCA risk for LTG exposure in comparison to oxcarbazepine (OXC) for cohort study data (n=2208 vs. 333, RR 0.73, 95% CI 0.33 to 1.62, p=0.44) or routine health record..."

[VIRTUAL] PREVALENCE AND CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SARS-COV-2 CONFIRMED AND NEGATIVE KAWASAKI DISEASE PATIENTS DURING THE PANDEMIC IN SPAIN.
(ESPID 2021)
- "CoV+ patients were significantly older (7.5 vs 2.5yr), mainly non-Caucasian (64 vs 29%), had incomplete KD presentation (73 vs 32%), lower leucocyte (9.5 vs 15.5x109) and platelet count (174 vs 423x109/L), higher inflammatory markers (C-Reactive Protein 18.5 vs 10.9 mg/dl) and terminal segment of the natriuretic atrial peptide (4766 vs 505 pg/ml), less aneurysm development (3.8 vs 11.1%) and more myocardial dysfunction (30.8 vs 1.6%) than PreCoV patients... The KD CoV+ patients mostly meet PIMS-TC and MIS-C criteria. Around half of the KD patients presenting during the pandemic had confirmed SARS-COV-2 infection. Whether this is a novel entity or the same disease on different ends of the spectrum is yet to be clarified."

[VIRTUAL] QUINOLINIC ACID IS ASSOCIATED WITH CAROTID INTIMA-MEDIA THICKNESS IN HIV
(CROI 2021)
- "HIV duration (4 yrs) and HIV-1 RNA (2461 copies/ml) were similar among HIV+, but nadir CD4+ was lower in HIV+ initiating ART (340 vs 505 cells/mm3; p<0.01)... QA, but not KA, was associated with both CCA and bulb IMT, and inflammatory and coagulation markers appear to mediate these effects. Also, TRYP metabolites were associated more closely with bulb IMT, the site with the highest inflammatory milieu. ART initiation appears to impact TRYP metabolite levels."
