New horizon of the combined BCG vaccine with probiotic and liraglutide in augmenting beta cell survival via suppression of TXNIP/NLRP3 pyroptosis signaling in Streptozocin-Induced diabetes mellitestype-1 in rats.
(PubMed, Heliyon)
- "Conversely, diabetic-treated groups, especially the BCG + LIR + probiotic group, were superior in amelioration of STZ-induced pyroptosis of pancreatic islets evidenced by a significant decline in inflammatory cytokines and apoptotic markers with a remarkable upgrade in redox balance, Furthermore, the mitigation in the altered histopathological picture of the pancreas with enhanced insulin immunostaining has been was mirrored on the significant improvement of glucose homeostasis parameters. Noteworthy, BCG combination with liraglutide and probiotic might be a promising repurposed therapeutic modality in the management of type-1 diabetes mellites via targeting pancreatic TXNIP/NLRP3 signaling pathway."

HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION IN PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCY DISEASES: SINGLE CENTRE EXPERIENCE
(EBMT 2024)
- "All received Fludarabine-Busulfan (Flu/Bu)/rabbit ATG as conditioning with cyclosporine (CSA) and methotrexate as GVHD prophylaxis. One SCID patient had transplacental maternal engraftment and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia for which he received 2 doses of rituximab pretransplant. Another SCID patient was on prophylactic antituberculosis treatment for previous BCG vaccine... Although, starting HSCT program of PID patients was challenging, yet the integration of knowledge between immunologists and transplant specialists and the individualized plans based on the characteristics of every patient made it successful."

BCG vaccination and the risk of COVID 19: A possible correlation.
(PubMed, Virology)
- "Differentially expressed genes obtained from the dataset were used to determine enriched pathways, biological processes, and molecular functions for monocytes post BCG vaccination. Our data show that BCG vaccine promotes a more effective immune response of monocytes against SARS-CoV2, but probably not sufficient to prevent the infection."

Efficacy of chemoprophylaxis and immunoprophylaxis in leprosy prevention: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
(PubMed, Clin Microbiol Infect)
- "Compared to placebo, the BCG vaccine was the most effective prophylactic intervention. The combination of BCG vaccination + SDR had nearly the same efficacy as BCG vaccination alone, while BCG revaccination was the least effective. Thus, vaccination proved to be a more effective treatment than SDR alone. A well-designed multicenter RCT is warranted to evaluate the safety of these vaccines."
