Inherited palmar filiform hyperkeratosis: A case report
(EADV 2024)
- "However, there have been recent reports of success with topical tacalcitol 0.002% , 5-fluorouracil 5% , a combination of topical tacalcitol 0.002% and 5-fluorouracil 5% , ammonium lactate 12% , salicylic acid , or retinoids . To our knowledge, only a small number of cases of filiform keratoderma of the palms and soles have been reported. This may be explained by the fact that patients do not consult us for keratoderma filiformis because most cases are asymptomatic or cause only minimal discomfort."

Comparison of various excimer laser (EL) combination therapies for vitiligo: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.
(PubMed, J Dermatolog Treat)
- "Network Meta-Analysis showed that EL combined with antioxidants (SUCRA = 98.8%), EL combined with calcipotriol (SUCRA = 59.8%) and EL combined with tacalcitol (SUCRA = 59.6%) were the three optimal interventions achieving repigmentation rates ≥ 75%...Based on the results of the current study, EL combination therapies were safe with mild adverse events. EL combined with antioxidants was the preferred regimen for vitiligo, whereas EL alone was the regimen with the highest rate of treatment failure in vitiligo."

Vitamin D and Its Analogues: From Differences in Molecular Mechanisms to Potential Benefits of Adapted Use in the Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease.
(PubMed, Nutrients)
- "Here, we discuss these aspects, especially those of the commonly used vitamin D analogues alfacalcidol, paricalcitol, doxercalciferol, tacalcitol, calcipotriol, and eldecalcitol. Furthermore, the formation of intracellular neurofibrillary tangles involving hyperphosphorylated tau proteins contributes to the pathology of AD. In conclusion, this review emphasizes the importance of an adequate vitamin D supply and discusses the specifics of administering various vitamin D analogues compared with vitamin D in geriatric patients, especially those suffering from AD."

Investigation on the Synthesis of 24-(R)-hydroxycholesterol.
(PubMed, Steroids)
- "A facile and novel strategy has been developed for synthesis of 24-(R)-hydroxycholesterol, a key intermediate of tacalcitol, starting from 24-dehydrocholesterol in seven steps with 48.2% overall yield and high diastereomer ratio. Photocatalytic oxidation of olefins by employing inexpensive Rose Bengal as photosensitizer and air as the sole oxidant for the preparation of Δ-3β-Hydroxycholestadiene-24-one-3-acetate is the key step in this synthetic route. This developed strategy features mild conditions, satisfied total yield and excellent stereoselectivity (24-R/S = 97.7:2.3), providing a novel access to the 24-(R)-hydroxycholesterol."

Effects of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D and tacalcitol on cell signaling and anchorage-independent growth in T98G and U251 glioblastoma cells.
(PubMed, Biochem Biophys Rep)
- "Experiments using soft agar colony formation assay in T98G and U251 cells revealed significant suppression by 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D and tacalcitol on anchorage-independent growth, a property for cancer invasion and metastasis known to correlate with tumorigenicity. These findings indicate that vitamin D and its analogs may be able to counteract the oncogenic transformation, invasion and metastatic potential of glioblastoma and prompt further study of these compounds in the development of improved therapy for brain cancer."

Micro-RNAs in Response to Active Forms of Vitamin D in Human Leukemia and Lymphoma Cells.
(PubMed, Int J Mol Sci)
- "Knowing that leukemia and lymphoma cells show different responses to active forms of vitamin D, we decided to investigate the role of selected miRNA molecules and regulated proteins, analyzing if there is a correlation between the selected miRNAs and regulated proteins in response to two active forms of vitamin D, calcitriol and tacalcitol...We selected five miRNA molecules-miR-27b, miR-32, miR-125b, miR-181a, and miR-181b-and the proteins regulated by these molecules, namely, CYP24A1, Bak1, Bim, p21, p27, p53, and NF-kB. The results showed that the level of selected miRNAs correlates with the level of proteins, especially p27, Bak1, NFκB, and CYP24A1, and miR-27b and miR-125b could be responsible for the anticancer activity of active forms of vitamin D in human leukemia and lymphoma."

Therapeutic Options for the Treatment of Darier's Disease: A Comprehensive Review of the Literature.
(PubMed, J Cutan Med Surg)
- "We identified Grade B evidence for the following treatments of DD: oral acitretin, oral isotretinoin, systemic Vitamin A, topical tretinoin, topical isotretinoin, topical adapalene gel, topical 5-flououracil, topical calciptriol and tacalcitol (with sunscreen), grenz ray radiation, and x-ray radiation. All other evidence for treatments of DD consisted of case reports or case series, which is considered grade C evidence. Considering the quality and quantity of evidence, clinicians may consider initiating a trial of select topical or oral retinoids first in patients with localized or generalized DD, respectively."
