Hamstrings corticomotor and neuromechanical function in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
(PubMed, J Electromyogr Kinesiol)
- "Neuromechanical function was quantified via maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) torque, early and late-phase rate of torque development (RTD100, RTD200), and semitendinosus electromyographic amplitude.Paired-samples t-tests or Wilcoxon signed-rank tests compared outcomes between limbs...Lower AMT (r = 0.462, p = 0.026) and ICF (r = 0.510, p = 0.013) associated with lower RTD200, and lower MEP associated with lower MVIC torque (r = 0.448, p = 0.032). Hamstrings neural adaptation following ACLR, characterized by lower corticospinal inhibition (semitendinosus) and torque deficits, highlights the need for rehabilitation approaches targeting both neural and peripheral impairments."

Both Isometric and Dynamic Testing Are Essential for a Comprehensive Assessment of the Knee Extensors.
(PubMed, J Strength Cond Res)
- "Principal component analysis identified 4 components: (a) "Maximal force" (composed by MVT, T0, RTD100, RTD150, Topt, Pmax), (b) "Explosiveness" (composed by RTD50, RTDpeak, RTD50N, RTD100N, RTD150N, RTDpeakN, time to peak torque, time to RTDpeak), (c) "Force at high velocity" (composed by V0 and Vopt), and (d) "Curvature" (C). When data were normalized by sex differences, "Explosiveness" resulted as the first component and Pmax was included in the "Force at high velocity" component. The present findings remark the importance of testing the explosiveness (i.e., early RTD and normalized RTD metrics) together with torque-velocity profiling, to have a more comprehensive assessment of neuromuscular qualities."

Astaxanthin mitigates radiation-induced erectile dysfunction: protective effects on corpus cavernosum in a rat model.
(PubMed, Int J Impot Res)
- "Alpha smooth muscle actin (SH:165 (136.25-188.75) vs RT:100 (87.5-112.5), AST:137.5 (107.5-155), p < 0.001), endothelial nitric-oxide synthase (NOS) (SH:127.5 (115-167.5) vs RT:92.5 (81.25-98.75), AST:115 (86.25-128.75), p = 0.002) and neuronal NOS (SH:152.5 (133.75-163.75) vs RT:95 (81.25-103.75), AST:135 (125-140), p < 0.001) were diminished in the RT-group and preserved in the AST-group according to immunohistochemical scoring. Biochemical measurements of the corpus cavernosum revealed that the level of cGMP was significantly higher (93.15 (71.22-103.38) vs 70.8 (65-72.35) pmol/ml) in the AST-group, while lipid peroxidation was significantly higher (32.38 (29.07-36.98) vs 20.14 (17.85-21.04) nmol.mda/g) in the RT-group (p = 0.004, p < 0.001). This trial showed that AST preserved ICP/MAP values and histopathological-biochemical parameters after exposure to iR."

Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution of Heteroaryl Halides with Thiols.

- "The nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) between heteroaryl halides (Cl, Br) and thiols proceeds smoothly in DMAc under the action of K2CO3 at rt-100 °C...The reactivity trend of heteroaryl halides is highly dependent on the electronic nature of the heteroarenes and orientation of halogens. Besides thiols, a couple of functionalized thioureas and thioamides are compatible with these conditions, providing the corresponding heteroaryl thioethers in good yields."

Sex differences in corticospinal excitability and quadriceps performance after ACL reconstruction.
(PubMed, J Orthop Res)
- "Quadriceps performance (peak torque, PT; rate of torque development from onset to 100ms, RTD100; and RTD from 100-200ms, RTD200) and CSE (active motor threshold, AMT; slope of the stimulus response curve, SR curve slope) were measured using an isokinetic dynamometer (HUMAC NORM) and transcranial magnetic stimulation respectively...Females after ACLR had worse surgical limb quadriceps PT than control males and slower RTD100 and RTD200 than control males and control females. Higher CSE in males after ACLR may point to a potentially adaptive neurological change in males post-ACLR and indicate greater need for novel interventions to address cortical drive in females after ACLR."

Energy And Carbohydrate Intake Are Associated With Quadriceps Rate Of Torque Development Following ACL Injury
(ACSM 2022)
- "Food records were analyzed, and participants completed isokinetic dynamometer assessment including knee extension maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC, Nm/kg) and rate of torque development (Nm*kg-1*s-1) evaluated from contraction initiation to 100 ms (RTD100) and 100 ms to 200 ms (RTD200)... Our results show total energy and carbohydrate intake positively associate with strength indices following ACL injury. These findings underscore the importance of nutritional status to support functional recovery following ACL injury and highlight the need to study the role of carbohydrate intake needs during recovery from ACL injury."

[VIRTUAL] Utility Of Strength-based Torque Characteristics To Distinguish Between Older Women Of Different Walking Performance Abilities
(ACSM 2021)
- "For each MVC, participants sat in an upright position and were instructed to extend the leg as hard and fast as possible for 3-4 s. Isometric PT and early (RTD100), late (RTD200), and maximum (Peak RTD) RTD measurements were calculated and displayed by a novel strength testing device at the conclusion of each MVC and were normalized to body mass... These findings suggest that knee extensor muscle strength, and in particular RTD, may be an effective measure at distinguishing between older women of different six-minute walking performance abilities. Physical therapists and other practitioners may use these findings to help with the identification and early detection of older adults who are at a high risk for functional performance deficits."
